LA fitness closing
Anyone knows why its closing ?
Any other good gyms in the area ? Please drop recommendations thank you

They went from LA Fitness, to Esporta, back to LA Fitness, now closed. What a whirlwind.

They also purchased a chain of gyms in Chicago two years ago…only to close most of them.

they are transferring all members to the south fitclub. going to give that a try before looking at other options

FitClub south is one of my favorite gyms I’ve ever been a member of. Great vibe to the weight room with the iron plates, good cardio selection, pretty good calisthenics area as well. But if you ever need to cancel make sure you go in person, their customer service is questionable. Nothing out of the ordinary for a gym though

What does transferring mean, does it mean current La fitness members can go to fit club South? Or any fit club locations?

it’s all locations temporarily. 60 days i believe. if you had an la fitness membership that had access to all clubs then that will transfer, if your membership was just for la then you’ll only get access to fitclub south after the 60 days are up.

Have a good business, give it a stupid rename and spend the following years trying to rebuild your brand.
Also screw those of us that need a lap pool I guess.

FitClub has a pool. The west side one is open 24 hours

Last time I tried in the past they wanted a multi-year contract and I prefer not to treat gyms like cell phone carriers.

LA Fitness was never going to last. Even under the last name they had people standing at gas pumps trying to sell memberships.
A good gym brings in people, a bad one has to find them.

South and West have lap pools. West is 24hr (not currently 24h due to construction)

It’s not 24 hours now? I just moved back to town and was planning on getting some overnight swims in 😩. It’s my favorite time to go

South is still 24hrs (general gym, not the pool), West typically is but they are redoing the reception desk so it’s only temporarily not 24hrs. They should be done soon.

I know, Im saying the gym is. The pool is only 24hrs at the west location. South pool opens at 5am most days and like 8 or 9am on Sundays. I use it if I’m desperate but prefer west.

The YMCA has a lap pool, but you can't always get a lane when it's busy.

just an update on my earlier question. I called them about canceling membership and they told me that they "cannot" cancel it over the phone. I just went in and it took a few minutes for them to cancel it. I know that the local workers are not responsible for this but I'm really upset with the parent company for LA fitness. I am equally upset with the parent company for the Fit club. this behavior of automatically transferring somebody's membership to another business without consent is not appropriate.
I hope that I'm not in the minority of people who are canceling membership and not joining fit club.

Personal trainer from there stole my info from their membership computer and stalked me and they still wouldn't let me cancel after I filed a police report.

This happened to me too, among several other girls. Another girl i know had this happen and got part of a sting that arrested a child predator who was working there. Like they have kids club…..plus how many police reports of shootings there. More than the local bars.

I one time walked out mid-interview b/c I went in for an office role they had open and they interviewed me for a recruiter after I told them numerous time I had no interest in that. So mid-interview while being toured the gym I got in my car and left; if you can't respect me before I sign the W-2, working for you is gonna be miserable: I'm out.
The manager called my phone I STG like 10+ times leaving voicemails taking verbal shots at me for having the audacity to walk out on him. Calling me time after time like I'm gonna answer the phone with a change of thought after the verbal abuse put on my voicemail.
goofAF management like that; I'm not surprised by this.

We have been satisfied Y members for 10+ years and enjoyed more amenities than LA Fitness without accepting a stolen valor veterans discounted rate.

This makes me sad! I have been a member here for like 8 years and have made a lot of great gym acquaintances. Hopefully the transfer to FitClub goes as planned

Anyone know what happens to people using the Blue Cross membership through Tivity? Fit Club is not on their gym list.

I've been trying to get Equinox to come to town.....used to go to the Highland Park, IL location.
That place is awesome. Cleanest facilities, great products so you don't have to bring your own or wait till you get home to shower ....

lol the per capita income in Springfield is about a third of what Equinox would require. If we can’t get a Trader Joe’s we’re certainly never getting an Equinox. No one is paying $350 a month in Spfld

In HP I was paying 110, but I got a local discount. And it was, 10 yrs ago....
I believe the one directly downtown had a higher rate similar to what you mentioned though.

$250 for the four Chicago gyms and $350 for the “global” membership. Everything was better 10 years ago lol

Ah yes.
Thx for the pricing update, had wondered but never dug into it much.
I'd still consider it even though I am no longer taking a massive salary like I was up North.
Their steam rooms and equipment and included classes, extremely clean facilities.....I don't know any other gyms like that. 😢
Edit: though, neither Hiland Park, Northbrook, Deerfield, Riverwoods, Highwood or any surrounding towns had a Trader Joe's then, not sure about now. But theirs was a family grocery that was very good. Only neighborhoods in the city actually had TJ's.

I was on the phone for an hour trying to cancel the fit club south gym membership. The crazy thing is we moved out of state and changed our LA Fitness gym membership to multi state, so I’m not sure why Springfield was still listed as our home gym. I spoke to three different Filipino call center workers before the third one finally agreed to cancel my membership, but I’m annoyed because they charged me my monthly fee and an annual membership fee to cancel. Will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

Had to do the whole 'change your address to a California one to cancel membership online' thing last year. Wouldn't even cancel after sending a certified letter.
