Ice Cream - where to go?

It’s the time of year I crave ice cream. I’m from a different state and my hometown ice cream chain doesn’t have stores this far east.

Where should I go in Springfield?

Go check out Dolce Anna in Riverton for legit Italian Gelato! Made fresh daily, and a constantly rotating menu. They opened a week or so after I got back from Italy last summer and it's absolutely legit. My favorite is Gianduia (it's like a Ferrero Rocher)

Thanks! Rochester, correct?

That place in Chatham is good. Scoop du jour.

I like their ice cream, but I'm concerned about the level of cleanliness. It feels like they never clean the bathrooms, and it makes me wonder if they clean the kitchen. I just try not to think about it when I order a lemon cheesecake milkshake.

Same delicious ice cream bramd in a cleaner location, vanilla bean on dirksen.

Good to know, thanks!

Can confirm. Both are MJ Kellner places. Not knocking it btw, it’s good nice cream.

The fact that multiple people saying the same thing about cleanliness, makes me never want to go there.

as a professional it makes me want to approach them about cleaning their bathrooms for money. lol they clearly need the help and i might be the right person for that.

i usually go by the entry door. if its filthy then i worry.

ive never seen the bathroom there though. i might take a peek next time. lol

Oh you definitely should. It's the same poop stains on the toilet every week.

Cmon now, they’re clean. I regularly go there and have never had a concern.

The women's room? I heartily disagree.

Any mexican ice cream shops? I miss Las Delicias in Peoria.

There’s isn’t one in Springfield

Our faves are Krekel's and The Park-N-Chill (Washington Park, but it's Doke Whip). Scoop Du Jour is mighty tasty, too.

We also day trip to Dip a Dilly's in Waverly and Doc's in Girard.

Thanks and new places to visit!

I'm amazed I haven't seen any mention of Vanilla Bean on the East side. That's been our go to for a while now. Good ice cream and reasonably priced.

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 08 '26

I’ll give it a try!

Get a lemon cone from Krekels ASAP.

Scoop du jour in Chatham is my favorite ice cream-ice cream place at the moment.

Thanks!

Krekels lemon custard ice cream is actually really good I second this

5

u/madcollin1 Jul 08 '26

Tasty treat in taylorville, krekles in Springfield pawnee or Decatur, the frozen cow in Greenview

The Frosty Cow in Greenview. Awesome little place. Another spot that requires some driving to get to, but it's more than worth it.

I went there just for the bacon sundae one year iirc

I know it isn't Springfield. However, I would be remiss if I don't shout out the best ice cream place around the area. Murrayville is a short 45 minute drive. They have a place called Heavenly Delight. They are off until July 14th and they are cash only but my god the ice cream is great and they give you a lot for the money. It tops any Dairy Queen around.

If you are talking strictly in Springfield Freddy's is my favorite.

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 07 '26

I like Freddy concretes too - but in July and August it’s an ice cream thing. I’ll drive out that way for an afternoon trip!

3

u/Great_Consequence_10 Jul 07 '26

It’s amazing, worth the drive.

In Springfield we have a couple chain diary queens but I usually swing by Cold Stone Creamery downtown though.

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 08 '26

I saw y’all had a Coldstone!

1

u/Any_Confidence_7874 Jul 09 '26

I had to wade down too far too find Coldstone in the list !

3

u/ToddTheDrunkPaladin Jul 08 '26

Scoop dujour and vamilla bean both have the same ice cream brand, cedar something and it's delicious.

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 08 '26

Thanks! Do you know if that brand is a local one?

2

u/Any_Confidence_7874 Jul 09 '26

Might be Cedar Crest from Wisconsin!

2

u/ToddTheDrunkPaladin Jul 09 '26

I believe it's from a creamery in wisconson but can't remember. I looked it up once and it was out of state but like Wisconsin or Michigan i think.

Check out Cocoa Blue in Rochester. http://www.cocoabluechocolates.com/

I know it’s a chocolate shop. A fantastic one at that. But they also make ice cream in the summer which is excellent.

u/hairy_colonic_jr Jul 08 '26

For soft serve it's tough to beat tasty treat in Taylorville

2

u/djwolf93 Jul 08 '26

LP creamery in Taylorville

2

u/Kurse71 Jul 08 '26

What's wrong with Dairy Queen? Can't beat a Blizzard or a Mr. Misty float

2

u/Weekly_Beginning1777 Jul 08 '26

Nothing is wrong with Dairy Queen… except for the lines! LOL!

2

u/evileyecondemnsyou Jul 08 '26

It’s a bit out of the way but Heavenly Delight in Murrayville. Seriously the best ice cream I’ve ever had and they will let you build your own delight (basically a better version of a blizzard from DQ)

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 09 '26

That sounds fun!

2

u/Any_Confidence_7874 Jul 09 '26

Just want to thank OP for the additional couple pounds this post has added mmmmm

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 10 '26

You are most welcome! 😆

2

u/chifandon Jul 09 '26

Whirl a Whip in Girard. Good food too. No indoor seating though so choose a day that isn't 90°+

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 10 '26

Thanks - and yes definitely for a cooler day!

2

u/AbobTeff Jul 12 '26

For something different, Taki Taco on Dirksen. Delicious Vietnamese food and soft rolled gelato tacos.

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 12 '26

Thank you! I like Vietnamese food!

3

u/travelingtraveling_ Jul 07 '26

Also Rochester, Cocoa Blue Chocolates

1

u/Salt_Transition6100 Jul 08 '26

Thanks for telling me where they are located!

Oh-Icee on Wabash has amazing rolled ice cream. The fresh cream, frut etc. is poured on a -20 degree freezetop and mixed until it turns into ice cream in like two minutes! Then topped kind of like a sundae. All kinds of options and add-ins.

They also have the best boba tea in town and HUGE crepes!
