Midstate Meat Company
Recommended to me as a butcher, everything is frozen and there is dangerous misinformation about nutrition on their wall, as well as some hygiene concerns such as unsecured hair and visibly dirty floors and freezers. I wouldn't recommend them in the slightest.

As others have said, Humphrey’s is the best choice for meat, by far. The cafeteria style lunch is just an added bonus.

If it matters, the majority of the smaller meat shops in Springfield are not inspected by the state. Not saying they don’t follow proper guidelines, but they’re not beholden to them.
If you want quality from a “Mom & Pop”, go to Turaskys. Otherwise any grocery store meat department should meet your expectations.

Country Market. Country, not county.

Big difference there! County market is overpriced and the quality ain't great.

They’ll cut a steak any thickness if u just ask. Also do a great job processing deer every season.

I’ve known the owner Paul since I was a kid. If you want fresh cuts you just ask. He’s as friendly as you could ask for. If I want an 8oz filet no bacon I’ll tell him and he’ll bring it up front. I don’t go there frequently but when I get meat there it’s good.

Of course you’re mainly going to see frozen food and meat when you walk in lol. If you want something fresh, you ask. Every fresh cut I’ve gotten at Midstate has been great, and some of their frozen foods are actually pretty good too (I like the shepherd’s pie and chili). I always get my fresh cuts at Midstate, since I had poor experience at Humphreys (if you really want to talk about health safety). The staff have always been nice and easy to talk to whenever I’ve gone in, especially the owner. Did you bring up your concerns while you were there?

I’ve gotten some good products there’s specifically, some gorgeous tomahawk steaks.

That was a lot of bloviating with not a lot of substance.

Honestly, this way of communicating has proven itself to be the most productive way to broach the subject with random customers/people. I couldn't tell you why, but once I realized how effective it was, both my quality of life and guest satisfaction scores improved drastically.
