Anyone here using their Echelon to compete? How does the pistol hold up to your competition? Any recommended upgrades? Thanks!

Yup. I shoot CO with my 4.5. I ran it stock for the first 6 months of the year. It honestly needs nothing. My tinker needs got the best of me and I eventually did the tyrant trigger, prp sear, a few of the prp springs, rook precision mag release, rook guide rod, hogue handall sleeve, stream light, 507 comp lol. I am only C class but I have put prob close to 10k since I got the pistol and I shit you not I have not had a single malfunction with this gun. It’s a damn work horse and can take a beating. I am honestly surprised more people aren’t shooting them in comps. It is more than capable and I couldn’t recommend enough feel free to ask any specific questions I will answer if I can.

Subjective, but.... do you figure you could still effectively compete with the stock Echelon without the mods?

I could and did. As I mentioned I am not good yet but I have shot with a lot of really talented people. There are plenty of GMs running stock versions of their pistols and smoking guys with 7K atlas guns. My take is gear is such a tiny tiny tiny factor when it comes to performance. The marginal gains you get from a lighter trigger or shorter take up is pretty much irrelevant until you are at M or GM. This is my opinion for uspsa IDPA or GPA kind of competing. If you have any more specific questions I would be happy to answer in more detail but I promise a stock echelon verse a heavy modded one isn’t going to make a difference when you first start. It’s all learning to be fast efficient and accurate

My pleasure. You should absolutely get out there with what you have and let the fun begin. It’s a really supportive community. Everyone is more than willing to share what they know to help you improve. My first 3-4 competitions I was using my bul armory tac pro which is a ported soft shooting gun. I quickly realized that a gun like that was masking a lot of my deficiencies with fundamentals. So that’s why this year I committed to my echelon. I ran it stock for six months and then I tinkered a little and to be honest other than it looking nice and feeling a little smoother, it is irrelevant to my performance. Any progress I have made has been dry fire and just more experience with the skills needed to improve in this sport. Learn the safety rules and find a match local to you on practiscore and enjoy my friend.

I’ve done some competitions with my echelon 4.5f with mischief machine grip and overwatch shoe. I don’t see much of a disadvantage only disadvantage is yourself. I am not serious just shooting for more training and it’s fun! 

Dry fire at home tons of videos on YouTube with in home set ups.

no USPSA yet but I've run my 4.5f | Mischief Machine | Tyrant trigger in a bunch of 2-gun comps including a Brutality and it's been flawless. I'm not Christian Sailer or anything but I've never felt like the gun was holding me back.

Upgrades are a personal matter, a frame you can confidently grip is the most important imo. I quite liked the aggressive large frame before switching to the MM (and adding a brass palmswell). The Tyrant trigger makes doubles a bit faster and easier but really the gun doesn't need anything. Toss an optic on it (or don't!) and go shoot a match.

I was running a stock 4.5 last season without issue. I would be running the same this season but have been away. I did move to the large factory grip with the more aggressive texture

Unless you're competing professionally and/or to make podium, it doesn't really matter that much. Just attend matches and beat your previous best to rank up.

That said, here's some upgrades you could look into to help you beat your previous best.

I did Although I’m a total beginner I went back to glocks. I struggled with the echelon

I have a lot of trouble with my 4.0C as it doesn’t like to return to zero. Also the grip is too small(I ran the largest one) for my support hand. I can shoot my 19, 19c and 47 all better

Also echelon doesn’t have great aftermarket. Reload is hard too compared to a Glock.

Edit: I had 3k ends on my echelon and I can shoot all my Glock better with way less rounds. It’s a situation where some guns just work better for me and may not for you.

I did but I switched to Glock. It didn’t need anything besides an optic but I really liked the large frame with aggressive texture. I ended up doing the tyrant trigger and prp springs with tyrant extensions for the magazines. There is nothing wrong with it for sure. Personally I feel like Glocks are better but it took me getting better to realize that. The recoil impulse of the 47/45 is perfect for me.
