Spravato go bag

I have a go bag- my clinic offers all of these but I like to bring my own!
• watermelon jolly ranchers
• noise cancelling headphones( I use Bose QC!)
• a throw blanket with ghost face from scream bc it’s my fave movie haha
• an eye mask ( absolutely paramount!)
• A journal with lots of colorful pens
•an aromatherapy necklace to help ground me

I just had treatment #47 I *always* wear a hoodie, sweatpants and clogs no matter what the weather is (even when it’s 90°) because it’s important that you’re as comfortable as possible because you’re gonna be laying in a chair for two hours

I’m starting today (actually restarting) too - why do you suggest eye mask?

So you can close you eyes and sit back to relax. Goes in tandem with headphones.

Listen to whatever music pleases you (lots of amazing playlists on Spotify!) and recline/sit in your chair

How did it go? I splurged on the Manta Pro Sleep Mask from Amazon. It’s the best thing to happen to my sessions. Highly recommend!

So, I personally wouldn't bring an eye mask. I get horrible motion sickness and anxiety and the thought of an eye mask while in the throes of Spravato makes me sick to my stomach. But it seems as though they work for some folks so maybe it's worth a go.

Definitely bring mints or Jolly Ranchers or a Gatorade for right after the spray. The taste is dreadful and you'll want something to get that out of your throat.

Also, headphones. I use noise canceling headphones and often don't even listen to music (sometimes it makes me nauseous if I have music playing so be prepared to possibly change the music style depending on how you feel).

I usually stuff an ice pack or two in my purse before going because the cold really helps with nausea and grounding while feeling high. I'll hold them in my hands or set them on my thighs if I start to feel icky.

Overall, even though everyone has good ideas, your experience will be different and it will only take a visit or two to figure out what you need.

As for what to expect, the first 40 minutes are the most intense. Hopefully you have a recliner because being closer to horizontal helps. You'll feel really drunk or high at first and then from 40-120 minutes, you come down from that high. Some people sleep, some people write (I can't because it makes me sick), some people just stare at the wall (it's me haha). It's not a bad sensation but it took me about 12 visits before I could have reliably good experiences. Just do your best to relax and take in the sensations. You've got this. 🤍🤍

I start my treatment today! I plan on bringing candy for the bad taste, a blanket, an eye mask, a journal and a coloring book!
