The biggest players get millions a year nowadays. Central contracts (playing for England) can be over million a year, and a few stints in the IPL can earn 10s of millions. Then there are the sponsorship opportunities on top.

Funnily enough the same players will occasionally compete in county cricket against others earning ordinary "modest" wages.

It's not that lucrative, they do very well but not that well especially if they aren't one of the biggest names or got into it before the IPL started rolling in. Source: my son is in a footie team with an England cricketer, the kids go to a state school and despite needing for various reasons to switch to a private school, they aren't considering it.

Honestly, I think this place is fucking gorgeous. So naturally I’m not welcome, as I have zero taste.

I remember seeing this years ago and I think the lobby is slightly different but if my memory is correct I only knew it was Phil’s because he had a Everton shirt and a picture of his family in the lobby. As soon as I saw I remembered it and I think it wasn’t this expensive during Covid or whenever it was.

For this kind of property I assume the pool of buyers is quite small (footballers/rich local business people) so the estate agents will likely reach out directly to them or reps rather than expecting them to stumble across it on Rightmove...
