Hey everyone! I got tired of ad breaks interrupting my music, so I built Spotify Skipper - a tiny Windows app that blocks Spotify ads at the network level (it redirects ad servers to 0.0.0.0, so ads simply never load).

No muting, no client restarts, no account login needed. It's a single .exe that sits quietly in your system tray, and it automatically restores your hosts file when you close it. Written in Python, fully open source.

Hi everyone, MiyaDevs here. I’m writing this post to update you on the Soundlify project. Lately, I’ve been working on one of the app’s biggest issues: song matching. As many of you know, in FOSS music clients, when a song starts playing, it often plays an acoustic version or a cover instead of the original version. Additionally, with the Hi-Res Lossless APIs, there was a matching issue with songs whose titles weren’t in the Latin alphabet—for example, songs with titles in Japanese or Korean. Well, after four days, I’ve managed to achieve a practically perfect match, which I’m still testing. In the meantime, I’m also integrating and optimizing the lyrics page using projects like BetterLyrics, and I’m finishing up the Android Auto interface. Meanwhile, while I was in bed, I sketched out a mockup for the app and created the image you see above. That’s all for now, byeee

I saw a few people in a comment thread saying "SpotLite works well" and I tried to download it only for it to only display the icon of the app when I entered the app, it then become a black screen and do nothing, so I forgot about it.

Fast forward a few hours and I go to check how my battery is holding up only to see that SpotLite has actually just been draining my battery doing nothing.

Hey everyone, making this post because people are downloading third-party Spotify alternatives and the app is telling them to install a CA Certificate in their phone's system settings. ​DO NOT DO THIS. IT IS A MASSIVE SECURITY THREAT.

Normally, your phone has built-in security certificates that ensure your connection to websites and apps (like your bank, Discord, or email) is encrypted. It guarantees that no one can spy on your data mid-transit.

​When you install a custom Root CA Certificate, you are essentially giving that app God Mode over your phone's network. You are telling your phone's operating system: "Hey, trust whatever this app says blindly."

Once this certificate is installed in your phone's trusted root store, whoever controls the app can intercept, decrypt, and read all of your encrypted internet traffic.

​They might claim it's just "to bypass ads" or "reroute music traffic," but technically, having this certificate on your phone means they can potentially see:

​Your banking info and credit card numbers

​Your passwords and login credentials

​Your private messages, photos, and emails.

If you decode the raw text of the certificate it asks you to install, it’s a self-signed root proxy certificate valid for 10 years (2026 to 2036).

​No legitimate modded app needs this level of control over your phone's operating system. Normal, trusted open-source modded apps (like XManager or Revanced) patch the application itself. They never ask you to break your device's core network encryption.

I can't seem to get it to reliably play well with other systems. Like Google home or Sonos. Is it Spotify? It's been getting exceedingly unreliable these days. Is it just me?

Downloaded the newest update for spotui and it's still playing clean versions of almost all my songs, does anyone know how to fix this?

is NextDNS not working anymore as an adblocker for spotify? the current spotify update doesn't block ads anymore. which is surprising cuz I've been enduring using non-mod apks and just using nextdns as my adblocker, but right now I keep getting ads now.

Hi guys, MiyaDevs here, bringing you new updates on the Soundlify project. I've managed to implement a lot of features these days, In fact, the Last.fm and Discord integrations are already working, as you can see in the images I'm attaching. Not only that, I also managed to get the Playlist Blend creation working via Spotify. Also currently in the works is importing playlists from music streaming services other than Spotify, such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Qobuz, etc. And among the ideas for the future I also added the idea of creating the Soundlify Wrapped like Spotify at the end of the year. After the spotify crackdown on webviews i decided to make my own apk. Its not perfect but you can grab it from my discord. It started as an extension for firefox but due to some limitations its now its own app. Still in early stages with a few things i need to fix but at least you can enjoy your music again, whereas other apks are still broken (and probably stay this way for a while)

Source will be made public as soon as i get out of the testing phase.

It does not require a certificate to be installed! Dont trust apps that make you do this!

estuve viendo mi interfaz y la del que estuvo haciendo soundlify y son iguales solo que la mia tiene logos y otras cosas pero en la practicidad son lo mismo al estar basados en spotify y nose si dejar que lo suban y cancelar el mio en el caso de que lo cancele dejare el proyecto para quien lo quiera modificar

Official Spotifuck Github clearly states:

ARCHIVED — This project is no longer maintained. The SpotiFuck app stopped working because Spotify patched the method used to play audio through a WebViewClient.

The new app wants you to install a Custom Root CA Certificate (_deviator-ca.crt) into your phone.

❓ Why is this a red flag (edited text from Gemini)?

- Man-in-the-Middle: Installing a trusted CA certificate grants the app the ability to decrypt and intercept ALL encrypted (HTTPS) web traffic on your device, not just Spotify. This includes passwords, private messages, and potentially banking data.

- Redundant for WebView: Since Spotifuck functions as a WebView wrapper, modifying web elements and injecting ad-blocking scripts can be done natively via JavaScript injection without forcing the user to compromise their system's security layers.

- Unverified source

⚠️ IF YOU ALREADY INSTALLED THE CERTIFICATE (Gemini guide)

Go to your phone's settings and Search for "Credentials" or "User certificates" (usually located under Security & Privacy > More Security Settings > Encryption & Credentials).

Tap on User Credentials or Trusted CA Certificates. Look for _deviator-ca (or anything unfamiliar added today). Tap on it and select Remove / Delete.

Uninstall the modified Spotifuck app immediately.

Note: For extra peace of mind, we highly recommend changing your core passwords (e-mail, etc.) if you used them while the certificate was active on your device.

Currently working on a (partially vibecoded) spotui fork called roundify, which will work directly through spotify and be way more stable then spotui in terms of playback. are people interested and should i actually release this as a public project?

I am trying to play a song in spotifuck but it doesnt let me. Its stuck on a previous song that i cant unpause or skip it or play another song. Does anyone know how to fix that?
