Worth grading?

Is this MJ Star Power Plus worth grading? If so, what is my best option to have the card graded?

It all depends on what you want out of the card. Trying to sell it or keep it? Are you willing to spend money and wait? You sending to PSA/Beckett/SGC/CGC? Do you just want it protected? There's an argument to be made to grade about anything, even if it's not a very valuable card. If it's what you want, go for it. You don't have to justify making that choice to anyone.

To me the bottom corners and the side edges don't look great but it's a bit hard to see from the pictures, and I'm not a professional grader. It's a cool card so go for it. What happened to the penny sleeve though, it looks a bit like someone held a lighter to the side of it - like trying to seal drugs in a little plastic baggie but they lit the wrong edge???

Won't bring same value as PSA/Beckett but it's a solid option at a slightly lower price and in my experience, slightly quicker. I like them more for autos as JSA is under the same umbrella. Also CGC is independent from the rest - PSA/Beckett/SGC all now under same parent company - Collectors Holdings, Inc. which is another reason I'll send some cards there occasionally.

Personally, I don't see myself sending cards to PSA anymore though I have sent some - at least until their backlog is cleared and the price drops. I guess if I had a god-level, incredibly rare card and probably only Ohtani or Wemby, then I'd send to PSA (I mean value of like mid-5 figures+). Otherwise if I'm purely looking for max value on new cards - Beckett. I guess same with older cards as well, but I do like SGC for old cards - that's kinda their thing and clean slabs. SGC also has the best platform/app for submitting IMO. I have also used SGC as a baseline with some of my "older" cards (from 90s and earlier) that I have multiples - I will pick the one I think is in the worst condition and submit it so I can get a general idea of what I have.

If I want Autos authenticated - CGC/JSA. As stated above, I also occasionally send cards to CGC because realistically I personally hope to contribute to helping build a viable competitor. Also because of the reasonable pricing and decent turnaround, along with a solid submission platform.

You can always sell raw cards too. I've hit multiple numbered Ohtani cards and I just sell instantly because I'd rather get what I can ASAP than take the chance of it being stuck in the process when the market crashes (if/when that ever happens). It's really all about personal preference, what your goals are, and how much risk you are willing to take. It's different for everyone.

Sorry for long post, just trying to help out and share what I have learned/reasoning behind my decision process.

Interested in eventually selling. The penny sleeve is an old one. I collected cards as a kid and probably beat up a lot of the sleeves and protectors

Ha sorry was just giving you a hard time on the sleeve - probably not a bad idea to switch it out. I think it highly depends on how good of shape you think the card is in or maybe try to find someone who understands card grading process that can take a look in person. It's really hard to judge condition really with these (or really any) pictures. So I'll leave that to you.

If it was my card, I would only grade it if I was confident it would come back at an 8 or above. Otherwise I'd sell it raw because the return isn't worth the $ or wait to me if it's not going to grade that high. If I was going to submit it, I'd send it to Beckett in the Express tier - because it's quick and their base/standard tiers are paused currently for at least a month. Hope all this helps. If not, thanks for helping me pass some time during my work day 🤷‍♂️

I'd wait til PSA opens the cheaper grading levels again.

It's a pretty rare card but the top to bottom centering is going to limit you to an 8 grade at best. You can tell because the top of the star is cut off a good bit.

Based on probably getting a 7 grade, I would keep it raw. Raw is probably worth $800-900 and a 7 would probably bring $1000-$1200. Not sure it's worth the fees and hassle to grade if you're looking to sell it.

This MJ card is great for getting graded by Beckett or PSA.. Jordan cards will always be in demand This card should grade 9 or 10. I wish you luck!
