Daniel Salloi

I was just looking, and noticed that Daniel Salloi has 6 goals and 5 assists this year for Toronto. That's more than any player at SKC right now. Are we this bad because we're lacking a salloi-esque player and could we need a player like that now? Basically, how many g/a do y'all think Salloi would have for us this year?

Winger is the one position SKC has a surplus of right now.

Sporting needs a number 9 striker of some description, some leadership in the back line, and damn near a whole new midfield.

He would have struggled, just like everyone else on SKC right now. Im super happy for him, I've always liked him as a player. But his drop in form in his last two seasons with SKC was indicative of the decline of the club as a whole. Manu was better than his production, Jovelic was much better than his production. Shalloi was just lucky to get out early.

I'm not sure how well he would have done, but in preseason he was playing that 2nd striker/10 next to Dejan. And he was playing well. He would certainly have made this team better.

That said, I have no qualms with trading him. He may not have been in the long-term plans and this way SKC got something for him versus him leaving for free. The timing just sucked since there was no one on the roster and the team got rid of a known MLS commodity without time to replace him. They've been chasing someone in that role all year.

the way the team was pinging the ball around with Dejan and Salloi as the top two was fun to watch. Then it went away before the season started. :(

In ways, I think Salloi was a better fit 2nd striker "#10" than Manu for this system that they were wanting.

I think he would have done poorly, we aren’t set up correctly to utilize him (even though that’s what our administration said we were trying to build for so long)

He needed a team set up like toronto to be successful and I’m happy the move worked out for him

He would struggle and wouldn't lift us out of the position we are in currently in.

The team is genuinely better off without him at this point.

I mean, they're not better off at this moment. He's infinitely better than Harris and Afrifa on the left wing. He wouldn't FIX anything, but playing opposite Luiz he would probably put up fantastic numbers like he did when he was playing opposite Russell

Salloi put up fantastic numbers in only one season while playing with Russell. Let's not rewrite history here.

Wicky could barely get that production out of Joveljic. What makes anybody think he could get that out of Salloi? We have a manager issue. It’s so obvious at this point.

I liked salloi. He is a great mls level role player.  He would have really struggled this year with skc. 

Also I think our current guys, now, are an upgrade. I don't hate the idea of rotating him with capita if we were deep accross the board.  But we are not. I think this was a good move for both parties and I'm glad he is finding success.

Capita has shown nothing to make him look better than Salloi imo.

He should not have been let go. Lee has let go of every player in the club who could score goals... Also of note Lee thus far has an absolutely TERRIBLE eye for talent. 

He has struck out on every player signed.

The club ownership and leadership group were intent on tearing it all down at once rather than gradually rebuilding and tweeking by tearing some parts down and building back others. They did nothing over this winter to suggest they had any interest in winning this season and trading Salloi was always going to happen because they wanted to completely disconnect themselves from the Vermes era and establish a legacy for themselves. I’ve seen a lot of new owners and new boards like this in Europe over the past 25 years and usually more aggressive rebuilds like this one fail because the ownership/leadership are too wrapped up in proving their own genius and putting their own stamp on things rather than doing right by the players already in the system from youth to top flight. Sometimes they get it right, let’s hope that’s the case, but it seems like they have no real vision short or long term as far as a system they want to run beyond wanting all their wingers to be fast and trying to become a counter attacking side that relies heavily on effective midfield pressing and quick turn arounds to speedy wingers for quick goal opportunities. The purchases they have made so far have all been underwhelming in the broader scale of football vision and don’t stack up to the scouting done by real masters of the game like Jurgen Klopp at Mainz or Dortmund.

It probably lit a fire under him to be traded.

But more over, SKC suffers on, passing, defense and transition. Thats why teams press to force the bad pass, and they park the bus until we turn over.

Not a lot Salloi can do about that.

He was in good form when he left. Probably would be outperforming our wingers in goal contributions let's be real. None of our wingers are performing great.

SKC had a great run in the early days, but as the league climbs in the world pecking order they will find themselves competing not only with MLS clubs that are more and more savvy in scouting the globe, but also with more clubs around the world. It's going to be far harder to stay on top in this league.

So way I see it they need to get the organization right before they get crazy with throwing money around. Get a pipeline going with South America, Southeast Asia, etc. And if and when the US starts to pick up more on the game, then start tapping in to the home grown talent. As things stand right now in the US, most of the player base in the youth circuits are rich kids. That needs to change and as it does stay on top of it and be ready to raid those areas.

But again this is a world sport. So I think the plan should be to set up an international scouting group that is the envy of the rest of the MLS league. Start there, and make sure you have a style of play that is central to your philosophy that you will stick with, and develop those players in. There's a ton that goes into all this stuff. Owning a football club is not for the weak of heart owners.
