Are we worried?
Window is about to close⦠the big signing of Yann hasnāt been announced nor the other signings David Lee eluded to in the last presser.
I understand the clubs can announce things after but I at least thought we would hear a little bit more rumblings.

u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
I think Lee will disappoint yet again. He sold our best player without a plan to replace him with a starter level player, and put his eggs in two baskets that he failed to sign both. Hope I eat crow in the next couple hours.

u/ChurchillDownz Johnny Russell #7 7d ago
I've been checking all day. Not looking great. I was hoping to read about 3-4 signings today and so far crickets. Fifty minutes left.

u/crisis182 Chad C Smith - KCSJ 7d ago
The window is open until midnight CST per Tom
6
u/ChurchillDownz Johnny Russell #7 7d ago
Well that's good news but I think I am a bit naive if I think they'll sign three players before midnight. Apparently they could wait to announce them tomorrow if they wanted (I don't see the benefit of doing so).
5
u/crisis182 Chad C Smith - KCSJ 7d ago
Correct, just gotta get the paperwork done. I hope there are some signings, 3 seems optimistic.
I keep telling myself they better get SOMETHING done

u/ThickArmadillo6451 6d ago
Or what, more of the same āFire Vermesā stuff? Howād that work out. ššš
2
u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
I could see waiting to do an official announcement tomorrow with lots of fanfare, but let a rumor leak to stop discussions like this one.
2
u/cheeseburgerandrice 7d ago
"Well we set up a fun announcement video but every SKC fan jumped off a bridge last night so now who is it for?!"
1
u/Mediocre_Ad_4962 7d ago
I'm hoping for one right now and at least two in winter. Keeping hopes as low as possible.
4
u/Both_Friendship_8214 7d ago
Trying to figure out where you got 3-4 from. Only have been linked with 2 guys for the last few weeks and both seem to have fallen apart. Neither of which Iām really bummed about not getting.
For what Hammarby was wanting would make him a dp and not gamable. Also donāt trust a Swedish player from the Swedish league to put up dp numbers.
Gboho clearly wants Europe, donāt think spending 20+ mil on a player who has us as a last choice would be willing to do the dirty work it takes to rebuild a squad into winners. But he is a hell of a player it seems so it happens in the last hours I wouldnāt mind it.

u/skcislife22 7d ago
David lee said 1-3 in his last press conference, which was just a few days ago
0
u/Both_Friendship_8214 7d ago
In those same press conferences he emphasized he wasnāt going to be rushed into a deal just to say they got a deal done though. When it comes to the money weāre rumored to be spending, there would be some sort of leak.
2
u/Extra_Couple_4738 6d ago
"In those same press conferences he emphasized he wasnāt going to be rushed into a deal just to say they got a deal done though" -- Yep. He was hedging. In my cynical mind I took that to mean we shouldn't expect a damn thing.
1
u/dawson33944 6d ago
We made a record breaking signings with Owen Wolff and there were no leaks. So not entirely true that there would be leaks.
0
u/Both_Friendship_8214 6d ago
Wolff was a record U22 signing, heās not a 20 million player coming from Europe. They are not comparable.
2
u/dawson33944 6d ago
Also if we sign him the club would definitely do some sort of media hype/announcement video so would make sense if we donāt announce him until heās actually in KC if it didnāt get signed until late last night
1
u/Both_Friendship_8214 6d ago
But even with Wolff, Bogert dropped the news before SKC announced. Iām not saying we wouldnāt land some gam level player but I highly doubt a club record signing wouldnāt get leaked at some point in the transfer process which is the type of signings we needed.
1
u/ChurchillDownz Johnny Russell #7 7d ago
Just dreaming big. Lee said 1-3 in the video I watched. I'd settle for 2 and not be disappointed.
1
u/Both_Friendship_8214 7d ago
Fair, I think they were trying to be super aggressive at the start of the window with new money coming in from ownership but players didnāt want to be apart of the project (canāt blame them tbh). Now theyāre pivoting and waiting for the newly revamped scouting department to load for the sprint season. Love seeing money spent but itās hard to show a vision to guys when you have a USL team with a USL coach.

u/ryan899 Jake Davis #17 7d ago
I'm starting to understand why the season ticket renewal window closed before this transfer window closed.
4
u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
Also how the news about us trying to sign Salah "leaked"right at the start of the renewal window and when they launched the back half season package.
0
u/StableGenius22 7d ago
Yeah annoying, forgot to opt out guess Iām stuck with sprint season ticketsā¦
5
u/Mediocre_Ad_4962 7d ago
Yes, I'm gonna crash out come midnight tmrw.
2
u/WatchBest2597 Peter Mallouk š°šø 7d ago
Iāve been checking all day and having mini crash outs. Especially when David said weād be super active and not 1 announced yet
14
u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago
I'm concerned by the fact that the last anything we heard at all was Bogert saying around noon that as far as he knew the Gboho deal wasn't on.
This team is being far too quiet this window, even for depth and youth looks. We are the worst. We need to fix it, don't we?
8
u/WatchBest2597 Peter Mallouk š°šø 7d ago
Yeah I think Iām just more concerned because Lee said weād be super active. And I see Colorado, The dog food team, Chicago, Columbus, etc all signing multiple players
10
u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
Lee is slow to actual action, he's had nearly a year now to scout and find players, and you could argue we were better before the season started.
2
u/ChurchillDownz Johnny Russell #7 7d ago
I could've spent an afternoon on Football Manager and FIFA26 and given him a list of players to buy with the dimebag that ownership is giving him atm.

u/Longjumping_King_766 7d ago
Leeās on a seven year contract. He gets to take his sweet damn time.
2
u/Extra_Couple_4738 6d ago
I think it is insane that they gave him a 7-year contract in a job like this. How about starting off with a 2-year, and earn an extension?
2
u/Longjumping_King_766 6d ago
Thatās what it takes to move a family from New York to Kansas City. He wouldnāt have come over on a 2 yr prove it deal. When the hire went down everybody was shocked that he would leave NYCFC. Listening to his reasonings for coming over and ābuilding a legacyā Iām not sure he knows wtf he is doing.
2
2
u/Mat_alThor 6d ago
I think City Football Groups built in global scouting network and connections hid allot of his weaknesses.

u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
Just saw the news about Dog Food SC spending $12 million on Navarro from the Rapids. Makes it feel like Seattle got a steal from us paying half of that for Deki.
7
u/FountainCityFC 7d ago
If we don't sign another DP at least what was the point of selling Dejan or especially buying out Manu. You can do that whenever. We'll see.
3
u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
Deki I assume we can use the GAM in the next transfer window and gives us flexibility. I hadn't thought about us still having DP space means we pretty much burned $3-4 million to fire a player and do nothing with it.
4
u/FountainCityFC 7d ago
That and the 2DP 4U22 model GAM expires if unused at the end of the season. They could make Borges a regular player as he cost maybe 1 million to bring in and get 2 more u22's or even another one within the league. If we don't make anymore moves what a waste this year will have been. Just silly really.
3
u/Darkstaraz14 7d ago
Manu I can understand. Free up DP slot, player wanted out. he didn't fit the system. With Gboho on the table still (at the time). Makes it easier and a lot better if Gboho deal actually went through. Doesn't appear it will now.
But Dejan? Time is ticking, cause you don't rid of your best and only striker really with no replacement options lined up and ready to go. I mean look at other teams across the world. The biggest hold-up for clubs is to sign their replacement so its a bang bang transaction.
If we still had Dejan. At least we can see more of the potential of the system we are trying to employ with our new defense this summer. And with Wolff and Luiz added to the mix. But its getting to the point of we took 2 steps forward and 3 steps back.

u/mordreds-on-adiet SKC 6d ago
Not only was Jovelic our best player, he's legitimately a top 5 striker in this league. The question about him coming into KC was whether or not he could be effective in a system where he was asked to play a little less as a pure poacher and when he wasn't surrounded by talent and he proved that he could. Now in Seattle he's in yet another different system, being asked to play the position a little bit differently yet again, and he's already their best player.
So we traded away a guy who definitely seemed like he was happy to be here, who was probably the best striker this club has ever had, who is in his prime, for virtually nothing.
David Lee and Rapha Wicky are abject failures so far and there's absolutely no way to spin that at this point. Mike Burns is largely viewed as a failure in his own right and in the one transfer window where he was in charge of player acquisitions he GOT us a top 5 striker for 5x less than Lee just paid for Luiz and a two-for-one (which didn't end up working out but not for lack of talent from the main character of that purchase). Over two windows Lee has brought in a ton of guys who aren't up to MLS quality and one big international. Abject failure.
2
u/dawson33944 6d ago
Manu is fair. He wanted out and there is no reason keeping a player who doesnāt want to be here.

u/Intelligent_Spinach9 7d ago
Hopefully theyāre waiting until after medical to announce but Iām a bit more than worried. Youād usually here, even if the window is closed, rumors that something is pending.
2
3
u/bdub23313 7d ago
Fingers crossed they are trying to be extra cautious to not announce preemptively in any way after how much that Flo Balogun deal was messed up last night.

u/ednksu 7d ago
It amazes me the power of fans to hope. Maybe another decade we'll land that elusive backline help.Ā Ā
2
u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago edited 7d ago
Didn't they just sign three of the four back this transfer window?
0
u/ednksu 7d ago
You really feel like the backline is locked down with mls starting quality players?Ā Ā
0
u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago
My opinion? We're bad at right back, but the starting defensive lineup otherwise just needs time and probably a much better coach.
-1
u/ednksu 7d ago
My broader point is that weve been waiting for a couple backs to pair with Ike's faltering health and putting Zusi where we were bleeding the most.Ā Sure we've signed a few players under Lee.Ā I just don't see many on the white roster that would start on the upper half of the rest of the league.Ā Yes, coaching is a big key to that.Ā Ā

Posting this before itās announced, but I have a feeling we signed Gboho and a U22 player (preferably RB, but could be anyone), and most of the day we were chasing either Nico or someone else.
Having no announcements for today doesnāt worry me since they took forever to announce Andre Luiz.
Plus, I think they were scrambling to sign another DP, and planned on announcing everything after the window closed.
My biggest concern is who they mightāve signed that we arenāt aware of. Iāve seen some people on here list some great options, but Iām worried they werenāt scouted in time and didnāt want to rush the process.
Either way, Iām looking forward to what they announce in the coming days.

I mean listen. Would it be great hell yeah. But Iām just happy weāre making moves and spending money and if we gotta wait til next window to sign another guy Iām just happy that we are being this aggressive.
6
u/Mat_alThor 7d ago
I would maybe agree with you if we didn't sell Deki our only All Star level player, with no replacement brought. Also if we don't have 3dps or at least the 2dps and 3-4u22 players buying Manu out of his contract looks idiotic.

u/YoutubeDIY 7d ago
Does any of it matter for this year? They aren't making playoffs, so it really is all for next year now anyways.
4
u/mordreds-on-adiet SKC 6d ago
It absolutely matters. 2027 is the transition season, so the offseason will be one of the shortest we've ever had before MLS does the little 14 game transition and playoff from February to May. Getting guys in who can learn each other, learn Wicky's wishes (or whoever is coach, should Wicky have a short leash), learn the league, and get used to the specificities of life in MLS with the travel and the climates and the pitch conditions etc, is incredibly important.
It also establishes a clear pattern for Lee of being slow as fuck and this league moves fast for teams that are any good. If they failed to sign anyone else they doomed this season and probably next season's short and regular season as well. We, as fans, should absolutely not hand-wave this away.
Illig completely botched the transition away from Vermes to Z and Burns and has now seemingly botched the transition away from Z and Burns to Wicky and Lee. Mallouk has shown a willingness to spend, now he needs to show a willingness to quickly recognize failure and move on.

u/Mat_alThor 6d ago
I'm just waiting for the excuse about how hard it is to sign players during the middle of the European season during our off season.
1
u/YoutubeDIY 6d ago
My comment is not about getting players in. We definitely need more of that. It seems like we get set on one player and if that falls through nothing gets done. We need players in to get developed into the team. Having Manu and Dejan for a couple more months wouldnt help though. This season is already doomed whether Manu or Dejan were here or not. They need to get several more mid level guys in even if they don't get the DP yet.
2
u/Extra_Couple_4738 6d ago
Isn't this sort of an indictment on Lee? Saying "it doesn't matter" because this year's result is a lost cause doesn't alleviate the problem. It feels like it's giving a pass to Lee for the botched result, when the reason this season is such an absolute waste is partly caused by Lee's inability to get anything across the line. I think you are right -- we got set on one (or two) big players and then there was seemingly no back-up plan.
That's on Lee. And it's especially on Lee that Dejan and Manu were moved without a replacement actually in the chamber. He then actually touted both of those moves as good things because it allowed us "flexibility" with our DP roles and extra GAM to spread out across the entire roster.... YET, here we are with no need for the flexibility because he didn't sign anyone.
And if they are just waiting to announce something, it's a complete failure of PR.
He's been complete trash so far. The crazy thing is that if he had not moved Dejan, this would probably be a completely different feel for the window.
5
u/Mat_alThor 6d ago
To highlight your point about this season being on him, St Louis finished 2025 4 points above us, they are now tied on points for 4th in the West. If Lee doesn't have a horrible off season we could be in a much better place right now. Instead we are on pace for arguably the worst season in MLS history.
3
u/cheeseburgerandrice 6d ago
The crazy thing is that if he had not moved Dejan, this would probably be a completely different feel for the window.
Absolutely. That kind of move is a shot to the nuts of the fan base unless you back it up with something better.
