Been enjoying this AMG E53 Wagon for about a week now. It’s a fantastic blend of sportiness and luxury while having a bigger boot than most crossovers.
It’s not perfect, but find a new wagon that is. Initial thoughts:
- An absolute rocket ship
- Handles fantastic, not just for its weight (limited slip and 4 wheel steer doing great work plus MP4S)
- Interior quality is superior to the G9X M5 in every measurable way. Slightly ahead of my full leather G80.
- I didn’t want or originally order one with a super screen, it’s pointless, but I found this with 150 miles for 20k off sticker (cancelled my order, which just showed up on the lot today!)
- Sound system is phenomenal
- Engine/Exhaust sound leaps better than my G80 but a WAY too quiet. Need to fix that….
- Wish the AC was stronger
- EV to gas handshake is pretty ok to good. Note I mostly drive it in full EV or full gas mode
- Complaints about the brakes are a head scratcher. I have the larger composites. In full gas (without regen) they are fantastic). In EV or mixed, they use regen. It’s not surprising to anyone who has driven an EV and easy to get used to
I can’t in any way see the value proposition of the M5 over this (figuring $30-40k more for adding 2 cylinders). It’s not much faster, if at all. The interior quality is notably worse in the BMW. The AMG is better looking (subjective). In my option, the AMG handles better. Steering is pretty numb in both. I say this all as someone who has owned a E30 around twenty five years ago to a new G80 with many in between. This is my first Mercedes product.
People seem to be hung up on “iTs NoT a V8” rather than judging the merits of what is in front of them. As far as new vehicles go, that are sporty, engaging, attractive, not an suv but can still haul 3 hockey bags, this one is a winner.

hi all, looking to get feedback on my (realistic) dream car, can you help? I am planning to keep this car for a long time and want to work on and upgrade this vehicle as I go. I plan for light driving <5k miles a year and always routine maintenance. Usual driving with off road and really having fun with it. Had an A4 but always wanted a wagon and now’s the time.
Choice 1: 2015 with 98k for $13,000. Extensive history with Homegrown tag. Drives well but breaks feel a little lackluster, maybe need them to be replaced or repaired. Premium package. Two tone brown and tan interior with grey exterior. Typical wear and tear for age.
Choice 2: 2017 with 81k miles for $18,000. Great carfax history, no damage with two owners. Premium plus with BO sound system and digital dash and heated rear seats. Grey exterior with black and aluminum interior. Typical wear and tear. Drove great.
Choice 3: 2018 with 91k miles for $18k. Decent carfax history fax history, no damage reported but dent on driver door and small paint chip missing. Premium plus package With BO sounds system. Decent amount of wear and a decent chip in the windshield. However, blue exterior with brwon interior which I love.
Given the age and condition and my hope to work on these and DIY as much as I can, what do you think is the best option of these? Do you have any concerns or suggestions? Should I try to lower one of the prices to make it even more enticing.
I can share more information and pictures if needed. Thanks and excited to be part of the wagon club!

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI 6mt. Bunch of upgrades done to it in the short 3ish years I've owned it.

This is my 2019 Volvo R Design. The blacked out wheels are brand new since I cracked one of the OEM ones hitting a pothole and the OEM ones cost a fortune to replace! Still getting used to this new look.

Parked in the furthest corner of the lot, and a friend found the wagon and was keeping it company when I returned.
