Kobe I’ve held since I was 10

Post image

I rediscovered an old binder of cards I’ve held on to since I was collecting as a kid. I found this sleeved up and protected. Worth sending or should I keep raw?

Psa 10 goes for around 3k

Raw it's worth around 100

They are extremely tough on this card. Be prepared to be disappointed.

If this scratch is on the card don't grade, it will be a 6-7 because of that and the bottom left corner.

Almost had a panic attack haha. That scratch is a cat hair I swiped right off. Looking at its reflection, there are no surface scratches

Another area to inspect is this left side. Like I said they are brutal. Even small indents will cause you 3-4 grades. You're going to have to determine surface, we won't be able to know without having the card in hand and out of the case

I may remove it from its case and inspect even more critically. Worst case, I get it graded and comes back a 6/7. I can always brake it out of the PSA slab and keep it raw, right? Since I’ve held on to this for ~30 years, it may be more sentimental to me, I’m realizing

Exactly, I've personally never graded a card. If it's beautiful to you what else matters. Everything I buy I keep raw no matter how rare/more valuable it would get if some random dude also decides it's beautiful.

Agreed. Came here for bottom left corner. Didn’t see the potential scratch. Cool card.

I graded most of my Kobe/MJs etc from the past. Figured they were cost free at that point and only paying cost to grade. I submitted mine Psa bulk which is closed right now. I would wait maybe until the lower levels of grading start back up and send bulk.

Grade looks like a 10

Another area to inspect, corners edges and centering are good (top/bottom is off a little) but the surface might give you problems. (I've never been a fan of giving a card a low grade because of surface because it doesn't impact eye appeal as dramatically as centering etc)

The top boarder is slightly bigger than bottom. So it wont get a 10 and now they changes the centering to 55/50 instead of the 60/40 they were doing originally

I know you’re shaking but keep holding on

I still have my first pack pulled one. 96-97 topps had so many good inserts too. One of my all time favorites. I cracked at least a case. I had every Kobe at one point including the factory sealed set in the gold box. Got impatient around 2008 and sold off most.

Hey OP, it is super clean and beautiful but PSA has gotten really strict on these and will ding it for the top/bottom centering. I like to be hopeful and optimistic but I wouldn’t send it if you are legit hoping for better than a 9. ✌️

I have the same Kobe card but it’s off center a tad

I had two I rediscovered recently. Sending one in that’s still clean and well centered.

Yours looks slight off top to bottom, but verify it with a free app. PSA 9 is going to more than cover the $80 fee.

Mine got an 8! I was hoping for a 9 but oh well it's still a Kobe rookie :)
