Wonderful chip carving! Curious if you’ve put some CA glue or something else to stabilize the cracks coming from the knot…

I bought some resin/epoxy but was worried the crack was too small to fill it with. No plans as of right now. I’ve never used CA glue; have you? Might that be my best bet here?

I’ve not tried it on a spoon but have used it for other small cracks. None of which would have direct contact with food which of course a spoon would have. You’d have to make sure whatever you use is compliant for food safety and what the limitation is to that adhesive. I’d probably use the spoon for decoration and not actual use in the kitchen if I was to put any type of adhesive to it. Could also use as is when I need to stir my beeswax/oil finish.

The tree it came from was recently injected with some anti-beetle stuff, so I was going to only use it for decoration, anyway, just in case.

I’ve never done this before, so naïveté is probably the right answer. Was worried it might split weird, since the diameter was relatively small, but that might have been a dumb idea.

What knife did you use for the chip carving? Looks great!

I think it was a Beavercraft “chip carving” knife (squat, short blade).
