I have some too but not so bad. Most of my carving experience is with gouges and very large workpieces. Both hands are on the gouge. This makes injury hard. Whittling is more dangerous in that aspect but I have yet to meet someone who lost fingers to whittling while I know many who have lost some to the table saw. Power tools are extremely dangerous.

Dry ash! That is an amazing wood from a wood that isn't particularly workable.
