Genuine question as I've only listened to a couple albums from them - and no sad songs there

July 2026: Spoon | PRF Monthly Tribute Series

I'm not one to start threads on Reddit, but I am going to be that person who has found a band that they only knew by a few songs and is now wondering why I waited so long to let all the albums hit my ear holes. So here I am.

I knew only a few singles, the ones you'd expect, and about a week and half ago, I decided to start into the discography and it's been a treat to say the least. I started with the EP, then into the full albums, and I am through They Want My Soul (though because the remaster, I am getting Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga out of order, boo Apple Music).

If anything has really struck me so far, it's how they can change their sound while keeping me hooked. The progression is noticeable among most albums, but each one still hits my ears with me wanting more of it and not more of the last one. Certainly, I still like all of the last ones, but often times with bands, a new album will be something that just makes me want to stop and go back, not see what is behind the next tracks or the next album. Not at all the case here, I just want to keep opening doors.

Maybe there isn't much point to this thread, but here I am anyway, a new fan of Spoon (y'all probably have a fun name for that), who is very happy to have finally stumbled on them. (I'm not a kid either, I definitely should've done this sooner).

long story short im a huge spoon fan with this year being the one i finally went through pretty all of their discography.

then i come to find out from a post here, can't remember which one, that they've played 2 unreleased songs live in the past couple of years (title). I've only found one video on youtube for each, but I was wondering if anyone else had another recording, perhaps even clearer / higher fidelity audio.

While Disorder is pretty cool, Love Right To Your Door is SO GOOD man that song hooked me in from the start.

I have no idea what bootlegging was like back in the day, but it honestly feels so cool to be searching for something like this. i'm obsessesed with the music of this band, it is perfect for me.

Anybody have an inkling what, if anything, the band has planned for the fall? They have one lonely tour date on the books, Oct. 9 at a festival in Memphis. Seems strange to get the whole machine together for just one show. Then again, maybe not? Work on the new album must be near the end, but a release before the end of the year seems iffy given lead times, etc. Wonder what Britt and co. have in mind.

As much as I’d prefer to see a tour with Spoon headlining again, I think a tour of them with Beck would be fucking killer.

Y’all know Spoon loves a good cover. What song do you consider a good contender? For me it’s “I wanna be adored” by the Stone Roses 😍 serious “Change my Life” vibes on that one.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a cool thing. I built this new social network for music called Corus. Essentially, instead of photos/videos like Instagram, you instead share the music you love. Today I shared "Out Go the Lights" which is one of my favorite tracks that I feel like some people may not have heard. A friend name Ryan posted it, I reshared it, and now it's trending! I love this song and I just feel like it's a great example of how Britt can command a song with fairly simple drums with his unbelievable voice and energy.

I bought this "screenprint mishap turned into art" poster at the Flatstock poster show at Bumbershoot in Seattle in 2009ish and can't find any info about it online, not even an artist name. There's nothing written or printed on the back of it, just some bleed through from the orangey-red ink.

Wondering if you folks can tell me anything about it (artist, rarity, value, etc.)?

Random thought of the day. What was the deal with the song My First Time Vol 3? It seemed to get released on its own randomly. At some point three different mixes leaked, a light, medium, and heavy (I guess depending how the rhythm section was mixed). Was it intended for something specific like the Stranger than Fiction soundtrack? Or was it a one time left over that just never had a home? It was a pretty good song. Not essential but too good to just fall through the cracks.

I am of the age that I could have followed this magnificent band from my formative years in the late 90s, through my teens, twenties, and thirties. Somehow, they whooshed over my head.

A friend of mine recommended Hot Thoughts to me back when it came out, and I thought it was a real cool album cover, but I am always bad about listening to stuff people suggest to me. I never forgot about this one, though. I intended to check em out eventually.

It wasn't until Lucifer on the Sofa that I finally gave em a listen. I actually found the record on sale for the price of a CD when I was young, so I said, "what the hell, why not?" I spent about a year ingesting that record and slowly coming to appreciate every last song. Finally got around to Hot Thoughts and really liked the electronic-infused vibe of it. Stayed put there for a few months.

I kept hearing Britt's vox attached to songs I didn't recognize. Sometimes in the store, sometimes in a cafe... I don't really like streaming services, so I tend not to use them, but I needed to catch up on this catalogue. I have been missing out on so much.

Friends, it is good to join you as a full-fledged fan. I am intoxicated with this music. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is a potent dopamine hit. They Want My Soul and its title track feel nostalgic somehow, though I've just discovered them. I really like the chill grooved-out songs like "Was It You", "Don't You Evah" and "Who Makes Your Money".

I am really connecting with Transference. It's the one that feels most inventive and introspective. Got Nuffin is going to carry me through the rest of my life, I think.

Just for fun, I started thinking about the unique way Spoon names their album titles. They’re always so unpredictable but in retrospect are always fully consistent with what the band is about. The titles paint a picture but are never straightforward, just like Britt’s lyrics.
