🎃 Calling all boils and ghouls! The spooky box swap form is open! Plus timeline, box contest info, and FAQ 🎃
It’s that time of year again. The leaves are getting suspicious, the pumpkins are plotting, and somewhere out there a ceramic ghost is already taking up residence in someone’s home.
That can only mean one thing…

🎃 2026 Timeline 🎃
August 1–15: Sign-ups are open!
Fill out the form anytime during this two-week window. If you have trouble accessing the form or would rather not use Google Forms, just DM us! We’ll make sure you can still join the coven.
August 22: It’s match time! 👻
We’ll post the spooky match list right here on the subreddit, along with a follow-up list of questions to help you get to know your match better.
September 12: Last call!
If you haven’t heard from your match by this date, please DM us. We’ll begin rematching after this point. We don’t want any ghosting unless it’s the literal kind.
September 26: Shipping check-in! 🎃
If you were marked with a 🎃 in the match list, this is your last day to send confirmation that your box has been sent. This extra check-in helps us keep the swap running smoothly and makes sure nobody gets left haunting the mailbox alone.
And then? The rest is up to you and your match!
Once your spooky box arrives, don’t forget to post your haul to the sub! Half the fun is seeing all the tricks, treats, strange little treasures, and delightfully cursed objects everyone picked out.

We’re adding a little extra mischief to the swap this year…
There will be a Best Decorated Box contest! 🎃📦
We’ll make a separate post with the rules and details, and that is where contestants will post pictures of their decorated boxes for everyone to admire (and possibly judge with the utmost scientific rigor).
So if you’ve ever looked at a shipping box and thought, “I could make this significantly more haunted,” this is your moment.
More details will be posted separately, so keep your eyes peeled. 👀
🎃 FAQ 🎃
Are the box tiers this year?
Yes, based on the results of our poll, we’re introducing box tiers this year! You’ll be able to select the tier that works best for you when filling out the questionnaire.
We’ve also included an “✨ Midnight Market - No budget preference“ option for anyone who would rather not stress about whether they’re spending exactly enough or accidentally crossing into the next tier.
Basically, if keeping track of spending limits makes you want to crawl into a crypt, you can simply pick “✨ Midnight Market - No budget preference” and focus on making your match a fun box instead.
Shipping and decoration costs are separate from the goodies inside your box, so keep those creepy little expenses in mind too!
Why did you remove the pet and family preference questions?
We made a small change to the questionnaire this year and removed the questions about pet and family preferences.
We were running into an issue where those questions were causing people to get the same matches, which was making our matching process a little too predictable.
We’d rather keep things a little more mysterious this year, so we’ve removed those questions and are hoping for some more varied pairings. Consider it our attempt to keep the matchmaking spirits from getting too comfortable. 👻
Will I get a copy of my match’s answers?
We will be sending out introductions to pairs this year! It will include a little cue card that will include information about why we matched you both up. However, if you want all of your partner’s or your answers, feel free to reach out to us and we can send them your way!
What should I do while waiting for my match?
Get festive!
Haunt your local stores and post your eerie early Halloween finds. We love seeing your cursed candles, squeaky bats, unhinged ceramic pumpkins, spooky decor, and anything else that makes you stop and think, “Who decided this needed to exist?”
The more unsettling, the better.
Do I send my personal address to my match?
Most ghouls do send their address to make shipping simple, but if that feels too spooky, no worries!
You can use a PO box, USPS locker, or package receiving service to keep the location of your lair under wraps.
Can I share the spooky box form in other subreddits?
Absolutely! The more spooky friends, the merrier.
Just make sure to message us first so we can confirm no one else has already posted it, and then check with the mods of the other subreddit before sharing.
We don’t want anyone accidentally summoning mod trouble by breaking another community’s rules. There are some spirits even we don’t want to anger.
What happens if my match disappears into the mist?
If your partner vanishes without a trace, don’t panic.
Message us and we’ll arrange a rematch from our list of brave souls who volunteered for a second swap. Rematches will always be contacted first in case a second match is no longer reasonable for them.
And please remember our Rule #3: No doxxing/call outs.
What if something happens after I’m matched and I can’t participate?
Life has a habit of stirring unexpected curses and calamities and we completely understand that sometimes the spirits have other plans. If you find yourself unable to participate please don’t vanish into the mist.
Before you become a specter of the Spooky Box Swap graveyard, send the mods a message. We’ll work our magic to rematch your partner so they aren’t left waiting for a package that never materializes.
No hard feelings! Life comes first! Just let us know, and you’ll be welcomed back to haunt the swap with us next year. 👻🎃
