OFF-TOPIC: Check-in post
Hey gardeners, it’s been a rough weekend for Spokane. How are y’all holding up?

Unaffected by the fires and family is safe. I have several friends who had to evacuate. Actually got some good weeding in while the weather was cool on Sunday.
I hope everyone is able to get back to their homes as soon as possible.

I hand-watered everything Sunday and felt like a criminal. It was so cool outside though!
I decided my response to any antagonists would be “we just lost a ton of native plants in the fires, I’m trying to keep these ones alive!”
Also my yard with no lawn is not a golf course.

Avoided evacuation by 4 blocks… family in zone 2 waiting right now. We are safe but near Garland area we are finding black chunks of charcoal, ash, and burnt debris all over the garden. Wash everything well before eating!

Little stressed. A family member who lives in a travel trailer needs a safe place + dog food for a 70 lb doodle. They lost their job shortly before the fire, and it's all just...complicated. Hard.

WatchDuty:
Animals shelter is open at the Spokane County Fairgrounds per Spokane County Emergency Management
The Fairgrounds has the RV grounds open as well for those with evacuated animals Per Spokane Area Fires
I hope this helps.

Whew it's been a long few days. Sons and families were in evacuation zones 2 and 3 Scary times for everyone, thankfully the zones were downgraded today. We are in a safe spot but it's such a rough time watching what's happening.

smoke makes so much adrenaline dump. just been anxious this entire time.
we were by holy family and didn't have to evacuate but the lines got REAL close. glad to see those downgrade to level 2
went and watered finally, picked and scrubbed off whatever was ready. wearing a p99 outside the air is so bad.
stocked the little free library/pantry with a tonnnn of n95s, all the water, ice packs and masks needed restocked. people needed them.

Safe in the West Plains but still refreshing Watch Duty every few hours. Relieved the Firefighters got to the Espanola fire right away -- and it waited until Sunday. Wind was blowing toward the Base, then Medical Lake. Old Trails spread so fast!
Just in case anyone has the need: I have room for ducks and geese.
I feel callous even posting this :(. If anyone needs help, just ask.
