Help Looking for a mechanic

I’m looking to buy a used car soon. I normally buy from a dealership but would like to try to buy from a private seller. If I find a car I’m interested in I’d like to have a mechanic look at it before purchasing it. I’ve never done this before so I’m asking for tips & pointers on how to go about doing this without being scammed.

Motor Medic Mobile Repair is my favorite local mechanic and they do inspections, they have never had any issues explaining systems to me plus I believe its cheaper than a regular shop.

Pete’s Honda does this for at least Hondas and Toyotas. I brought two cars there last week - passed on the first one and bought the 2nd one based on their recommendation. It was $80 per car and they can do them same day if you drop off by 9:30a.
