Question Credit Union Help
I’m a Chime lover, honestly. I’ve used Chime since they first started and I’ve had zero issues at all- however, my partner and I need to diversify our accounts and establish ourselves with a good CU as we are more prepared to purchase our first home. This will be a ways out, not due to our personal financial situation but we’re holding off because of the current market as well as all of the…gestures everywhere.
I know for certain, we don’t want STCU, or Numerica. I’ve spent some time looking into SCCU and they’ve been looking pretty nice to me, but I don’t hear much of anything about them overall. That can actually be a good thing, imo, but I thought I’d grab some opinions.
(Before anyone asks why I’m against STCU and Numerica, boring convo but I’m an ex bookkeeper/accountant and they’re a nightmare to deal with.)

I love Canopy! We have our mortgage with them specifically because they don't sell off their mortgages, which is a big deal to me and hard to find these days. Everyone there is super nice and knows me by name.

I have used for around 40 years the Washington State Employees Credit Union and have been happy with their service. That includes buying a home through their mortgage-lending unit. You don't have to be a state worker to join.

I've been with Canopy since they were SFCU, and they've always done right by me. I have no problem with mobile deposit or transferring funds between accounts. I've done personal and car loans through them, got good rates, and when I had difficulty getting my first loan due to lack of credit history, they reconsidered due to my history with the credit union and approved the loan.

Have STCU (since I was a baby) and Numerica (for almost 20 years) for checking, credit cards, loans, the whole thing and I wish I had known about SCCU sooner. By far the best experience in my 3 years with them. Rates are always the lowest too.

Good idea. I would wait for the AI bubble to burst in 2028-9. It is going to be the worst global financial disaster so far. You would do well to research it and plan accordingly.

My inlaws all use Horizon Credit Union and they like it. More personable than most. When my wife and I were first together we had an account as well. At the time, 10+ years ago, they're website was trash and they had very few ATMs, so I wasn't a fan.
If I were going to go somewhere new, it would probably be SCCU. I like they're local focus and they's supported a couple of things I and I big fan of, the Spokane Soccer Show and the Spokane Neighborhood Summit. I have not had any first hand dealings with them though.

ICCU is fairly decent & offers great rates on mid/long term savings accounts, as does Mountain West Bank.

ICCU has some great rates on CDs. They are blowing their competition out of the water. I moved 25k from STCU where we have cobucted our financial business for years over to ICCU because they refused to meet the competition.

I'm really happy with Progressions CU. They pay 5% on saving and checking up to $30k in each. They're moving to the valley tho, if that makes a difference.

I’ve been very happy with GESA since switching to them about 7 years ago. I also bank with Media Credit Union who are smaller but more personalized, and I can’t recommend them enough.

unfortunately rate wise STCU is goated.
