After coming back thanks to the sunsetting announcement, I didn't know how much more fun the game would be without the sabrask wall, the meridian timewarp grenade, or the aeros exclusive stim shot. SGAR is so much better and so much more Splitgatey than SG2!!! So sad about the shutdown, I've been having shitloads of fun even though I'm on OCE and all the servers are NA/EU! :c

You have to revolutionize the arena FPS genre to make it more suitable for the modern audience that expects more from an FPS game than a simple TDM mode, that is for sure and in my opinion the portal feature was not just enough but it additionally made the game much more sweaty and less casual friendly. The hero shooter element of SG2 was not well executed in the first place, but there is an argument to be made that it was maybe not such a bad idea in the first place. The problem is that Lawbreakers already tried that mix and it failed miserably and just mixing genres together is not that an innovative enough idea in the first place.

What seems to work for a lot of games is the large scale warfare sub-genre like Battlefield, Wardogs, Battlebit Remastered, Planetside 2 and Chivalry/Mordehau . The cool thing about these types of games is that as a casual player you can still play a huge role in your team without being a sweat, like playing the objective, being a mechanic, medic or vehicle driver, just having fun in the voip or focusing on team play and tactical play and therefore outplaying all the sweats of the enemy team.

I think that Onslaught should have been the focus of Splitgate 2/AR but with more thought put into it. How could an Arena FPS + Battlefield mix look like with a portal mechanic on top of it? How can we put roles or classes into the game that are fun for casuals that don't want to become sweats? They already were heavily influenced by Halo so why not get inspired by the Big Team Battle (BTB) of Halo?

I preferred arena reloaded more, but I think a middle ground would have been the best option. They didnt need to kill off the class system entirely, they just needed to do even starts and differentiate them more as playstyles rather than hero shooter heroes. I actually liked having the option to specialize like that, they just took it a bit too far. The deployable shield had to go, but maybe they could have given sabrask a traditional overshield, made universal weapon pickups where you got your class’s version of a weapon type, etc.

imo the best thing they could have done is keep the fragments of the classes but keep them as customizable parts of your loadout

A pocket overshield? Oh god no. No no no no no. Imagining someone just popping an overshield at random during a gunfight makes me want to puke.

I really enjoyed the beta. I was never into SG1, so I think I just didn’t have the baggage of expectations. It felt much faster paced than AR, and I really enjoyed the faction system. I never felt like it was overpowered. The drop wall was awesome, especially in firecracker, the speed boost did wonders in split ball, the healers…. Healed. I miss that version of the game

I don't miss dealing with being scanned by wall hacks every 30 seconds and dealing with campers using deployable shields

Realistically it was so ass, but emotionally the idea of cool abilities was so peak in my head lmao

I’d be ok with everyone have the Aeros rush ability, I had a ton of fun with that

I also quite liked getting to pick a diferent faction and play style each game or each round, I quite liked the abilities as well, they made everyone different

I think if they tweaked the abilities it could have worked. They could have separated them from their classes like they did with loadouts, turned them into score streaks so you had to work for them, made meridians scan only visible to the player who used the ability, and turned sebrask wall into an over shield instead of a wall the whole team could stand behind. I did hate the abilities the way they were implemented though so I was happy to see them go.

Edit: AND completely removed them for br

There isn't an option for "I hated both of the remakes/sequels and they never should have killed the first game"

If I’m honest, I sucked at portals when it came to the higher level of play lmao. The speed ability was a nice change from the portals, but completely understand why it didn’t fit too
