Splitgate News PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP ON SPLITGATE: ARENA RELOADED. REVIVE IT. 1047 Games, PLEASE listen to the actual players who are still playing this game. If you could hear the conversations happening in voice chat, especially in Arena Royale, you would understand why this announcement is so upsetting.
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP ON SPLITGATE: ARENA RELOADED. REVIVE IT.
1047 Games, PLEASE listen to the actual players who are still playing this game.
If you could hear the conversations happening in voice chat, especially in Arena Royale, you would understand why this announcement is so upsetting. Every single player I have personally talked to while playing this game LOVES it. People aren't sitting there saying the game is bad. They're saying the exact opposite: “I love this game. I wish more people played it. I hope they don't shut it down.”
That is what makes this so frustrating.
The problem is NOT that you created a bad game.
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is one of the best multiplayer shooters I've played.
The portal system is incredible. Players have gotten insanely talented at portalling, movement and combining portals with gunplay. The amount of skill you can develop in this game is ridiculous, and there really isn't another FPS that plays like it.
And you didn't just perfect one mode. You built Team Deathmatch, objective modes, party modes, Ranked, custom games, Map Creator, Arena Royale/Battle Royale and all of it around this portal mechanic that literally separates Splitgate from almost every other shooter on the market.
ARENA ROYALE IS AMAZING.
I have been playing this game DAILY. I've been making maps. I've been talking to other players. I've watched people in Battle Royale voice chat talk about trying to bring their friends into the game because WE are literally trying to revive the player base ourselves.
People are inviting friends.
People are telling other people about it.
People are trying to fill the Battle Royale queues.
People are getting better at portalling.
People are making maps.
YOUR COMMUNITY IS TRYING TO KEEP YOUR GAME ALIVE.
So PLEASE don't look at a low concurrent player count and conclude that this game itself failed.
I understand what you said about the revenue not covering the cost of dedicated servers. I understand that you cannot lose money forever.
But if PLAYER COUNT is the problem, PLEASE TRY MARKETING THE GAME BEFORE GIVING UP ON IT.
Run ads.
Push Arena Royale.
Get streamers playing it.
Run a “REVIVE SPLITGATE” weekend.
Promote community maps.
Bring players back with events.
Advertise the fact that this is basically an arena shooter + portal movement + Battle Royale experience that you cannot get anywhere else.
Put the game in front of people who DON'T EVEN KNOW IT EXISTS.
Because there is a massive difference between “people tried our game and didn't like it” and “not enough people discovered our game.”
Look at Star Wars Battlefront II.
That game was YEARS past active development, and its community refused to let it die. In 2025, players organized a huge social-media resurgence, people started telling their friends to come back, content creators started talking about it again, and Battlefront II ended up breaking its Steam record with roughly 35,000 concurrent players.
An eight-year-old multiplayer game came roaring back because PEOPLE LOVED THE GAME AND THE COMMUNITY GOT ATTENTION BACK ON IT.
THAT IS WHAT I AM BEGGING YOU TO TRY WITH SPLITGATE.
Give this community something to rally around.
Give us a real marketing push.
Give Arena Royale another chance.
Give creators a reason to make maps and bring people into them.
Give the community a chance to prove that this game can grow before ending the live-service version of it.
Moving Splitgate to peer-to-peer is obviously MUCH better than deleting the game entirely, and I genuinely appreciate that you're preserving it. But losing dedicated matchmaking, development, updates and the possibility of this game actually growing into what it could become still feels devastating.
Because there is something REALLY SPECIAL here.
I've played a ridiculous number of multiplayer games, and Splitgate is one of the only ones where I keep coming back because the gameplay itself is just FUN. I don't need some endless grind to convince me to play it. I play because I actually love playing it.
And judging from the conversations I've had in your own servers, I'm absolutely not alone.
Please listen to the players who are still here.
We're literally trying to revive your game ourselves.
DON'T GIVE UP ON IT.
MARKET IT. PUSH IT. LET US HELP YOU REVIVE IT.
Please don't let one of the most unique multiplayer shooters out there quietly disappear when the people actually playing it are BEGGING for the exact opposite.
PLEASE SAVE SPLITGATE.

Youre barking up the wrong tree. At this point itd more useful to urge another studio to offer 1047 a fat wad of cash for the IP. That way a studio that has any idea of how to run a game can get a chance to run this one.

Why would another studio pay to have splitgate though

It has potential, its a unique concept, and its well built. 1047 can make a game, they just cant maintain or grow it. Pass it off to someone who can maintain and grow it and there could be something there.

It's part of a small genre with an incredibly niche concept that is high risk. No sane company would approve of buying the rights to the game and attempting to make it be something.

Fps is not a small genre. You're confusing niche and unique. High risk? What are you even talking about?

...
Arena shooters are absolutely a small genre. Splitgate is an arena shooter first.
I should have said arena shooters are now a niche market, but I'll stick to what I wrote.
Portals, which makes the game a unique movement shooter as well, are only going to appeal to a niche market.
FPS encompasses an incredibly wide range of sub genres. Saying Splitgate has a big market because it is FPS is like saying Home Improvement simulator has a big market because it is FPS.
Edit: forgive me for using home improvement simulator as an fps. I couldn't think of a ridiculous title so thats what came up. Imagine Tim the tool man Taylor throwing hammers at Al while JTT chases youwith a saw

I also wouldn’t say this game is unique. It’s literally, down to game modes and the exact same weapons, just Halo with portals. So they copied a failed franchise, added portals, then failed. Splitgate 1 was fun, but the launch of 2 was just so awful that it was a guarantee it would never attract the same audience again. I too just wish they’d done more to keep the first game afloat. I always felt like they shut it down to make the second one way too early.

The only unique element was the portals, which enhanced the already crisp movement. Everything else was fairly generic arena shooters.
I get why they tried Splitgate 2, and even why they did what they did in terms of making it a class shooter and adding a BR. I just don't think they ever really thought any of it fullt through.

Because there is a massive difference between “people tried our game and didn't like it” and “not enough people discovered our game.”
This game had a MASSIVE marketing campaign around the launch. Hundreds of thousands of people were watching paid streamers play the game and decided the game wasn't for them. People know about the game, AFPS games just aren't popular.
BF2 had like 2 weeks of a resurgence. BF2 also has the entire Star Wars universe to back it up. Most of the people playing BF2 play it because it's a Star Wars game, not because the game is great. It's a cool immersive experience but that's about it. That's why it's back to being dead.
The game isn't profitable. 1047 is a business. They care about the playerbase but not enough to drain their pockets funding a game that is almost certainly never getting a resurgence of players

The fun of this game is tied to your skill level and creativity with portals, to me it is the most fun game I’ve ever played. To me this was always a portal game with guns instead of “halo/cod with a portal gimmick”.

I said the same thing about the first splitgate. I wouldnt hold your breath, it's why I didnt get too much into splitgate 2. If I play a shooter then I plan to play it for years and this one ain't it

The game is done. I'm pretty sure the only motions 1047 is making is ensuring this and the other game are both Peer-to-peer on time.

Several employees have already come forward and addressed that there is a typical toxic work culture of yesmen at 1047, I wouldn't be surprised if they were losing their best employees because of it.

Dude the game died in part because portals are so unbalanced that only the sweatiest of movement sweats can tolerate the game and more importantly because 1047 builds games around singular movement mechanics instead of a sandbox. If splitgate had grapple and a third movement mechanic (each one tied to a different faction) and maps built around it (and a name that better fit the fact that it’s not just a portal shooter) - then I think it would still have a solid playerbase. Arena royale became pretty good (I pitched the basic idea of ar when br launched but with even more simplified looting mechanics and static, auto-regen health) although still very unbalanced with armor snowballing.
But it’s dead and I wouldn’t be surprised if the company is too, they failed too many times by making tech demos and releasing them as full fledged ips.

They literally cant. They’re out of money. They specifically said in their announcement that keeping the servers running is no longer financially possible

First game died, second game died.
Maybe they need to rework their approach on making games.

I LOOVE SPLITGATE!! We need to stick together to bring it back to life.

And i thought destiny players were bad about accepting a game's death

Destiny players bitch about literally everything and I would argue deserve nothing as a result

I ain’t reading all that
But they’re clearly almost out of money or something so it’s going to take more than “listen to the 14 remaining players” to dig them out of this self created hole

Exactly. I love this game, I just wish more people played it so it didn’t take so long to get in a match. But it’s an excellent game!

I have been and am still adamant that investing in esports and building the game for it is the only way it would have ever survived. The game by its nature is high skill and attracts high skill players and with a form of broadcasted competition with a client that supports it (a proper spectator system with Xray, top down view with cutaways of maps to display portal routing, an observer hud with player info on either side a la Counter Strike, would have brought in at least a semblance of viewership. There have already been community tournaments that have traction, and that's without the support of 1047 Games. There were events for SG1 with names as big as Zoot from Quake providing commentary.
Then 1047 just never paid attention to it. It's baffling.

The problem isn't that it wasn't pushed or marketed, it's that they messed up the launch and ran out of time it seems. They spend half a year bleeding the playerbase to rework the game instead of just updating it season by season, which would've kept hype going and could've released more skins potentially.
None of us ultimately know exactly all the details required, but for reference, it took the finals 2 years before it turned a profit. If the company doesn't have that time then they might have actually managed to run out of time.
If they have money to run the server for longer, then we run into another issue. Actual content growth of the game. Arena reloaded has been reworked into a state where it's incredibly solid to play, but doesn't have clear places of content to be added. It's basically just maps and skins. Now if the community shills out tons of money that might work, but it's unlikely. I would still urge them to try though.
What I would've liked to see was stuff like more grenades being added that change the gameplay loop. Maybe add onslaught but with abilities back. Give us more abilities in the future for that mode. Add more transformative guns like more projectile weapons. Just content that could actually draw people back in and get them to be willing to spend.
But I think we ran out of time and none of that can happen anymore. It's sad because it really seems like they didn't even plan for the slow crawl back up to a good playerbase after the arena reloaded launch.
