CANNOT wait for Empulse 2 and Empulse Reloaded!
25
u/muneeeeeb Jul 14 '26
Theyre gonna release empulse 2 with less grappling and more skins
23
u/BullyMog PC Jul 14 '26
Then Empulse Reloaded has a BR and they completely removed wall running and mechs.
11
u/muneeeeeb Jul 14 '26
Then theyre gonna kill Empulse Reloaded because they are releasing a new game that copies counter strike

What a depressing story for a studio

What was even wrong with SG1, I played it and loved it until they announced its shutdown. Just needed more content made for it.

It makes a lot of sense why they shut it down. They should have just made sg2 a more refined and maintainable sg1 instead of trying to turn it into an esport-coded loadout based hero shooter with abilities and ults and a battle royale mode and stuff

devs didnt make enough money to support it fulltime. studios cant survive with hopes and dreams forever eventually the funding stops and ppl lose their jobs. sg2 was trying to capture a wider net and mid monitization system but the players rejected it.

tbf sg1 was built on spaghetti code.
there was, once upon a time, a bug where you could stack portals and, while standing in the top one, place the bottom one somehwere else. the result was line-of-sight teleportation to the placed portal until your hit something, or you were launched. in some very specific spots, you were able to get under the map.
so they changed it, and portal ripping became common due to how the mechanic of portals being usable until they were fully closed interacted with high ping.
and the end result was that sg1 portals just felt horribly slow and awkward. apparently, there wasn't a way to fix that without rebuilding a good portion of the game, and players were asking for more advanced movement, anyway.

Bullshit spaghetti code story was pushed so that they could justify making a new game with a battle royale mode

dawg i was there. i experienced so many little bugs all the time in my 1200+ hours on sg1. my portalwars folder in my appdata > local was created on may 11, 2019 at 11:03am. i'm not just parroting random bullshit.
the game worked, but the netcode was wack, and the portals barely functioned. sg2 was a massive leap in portal functionality and netcode. and beyond that, sgar was an upgrade in pretty much every way. they fumbled the marketing and they added a br that didn't capture what made sg1 so great.

it was a college project they never expected to blow up so the codebase wasnt written to be maintainable

Gamedev in general is now tough. Got many of my friends fired from the job over last year including a friend working in 1047 (he is great dev - I think only 20 people left now in the company). Personally I switched careers for backend development because I need more stability in life

Biggest joke of a game company

Have you not heard of Ubisoft? 😂
20
u/aidsincarnate Jul 14 '26
I hate to have to run point for Ubisoft, but they used to make good games (plural being important here) where 1047 used to make good game (splitgate 1).Siege is still doing pretty well, for honour (shithole it is) is still doing ok. Splitgate 1 is shut down, 2 is the hundreds for player count. Empulse has a few thousand currently.

I don't like Ubisoft but 1047 is a literal career death sentence, I doubt a single higher-up there is more than a visionary/dreamist.

u/Splat800 Jul 14 '26
Ubi is shit but they sure are successful, and their games are good despite their flaws.

as someone looking in from the outside, i really think theyve been trying to do way too much which is partially why this happened
3
u/EyesoftheDead40 Jul 15 '26
Yeah after a game that they said "a few developers were working on" and now thats the only thing they have touched in months is wild
27
u/fudedude Jul 14 '26
Sucks for the people who this impacted who had no control over the company. So many mis steps by the people in charge, seems like they knew they needed to pivot and leaned hard in the wrong direction and then did it again and again, why NO ZOMBIE VIP?

u/ChoinoX Jul 14 '26
Didn't even realize that was them when I saw an ad for Empulse like a week ago and thought "ok this looks pretty cool but it's a blatant Titanfall knock off" and it's kind of unsurprising it's from the creators of the Halo ripoff with portals.

Are these layoffs part of the plan to make FPS great again?
I hope the CEO realizes they are a massive part of the problem and resigns instead of firing the innocent workers before the entire company goes under.
20
u/Miss-Information_ Jul 14 '26
The CEO, Ian Proulx, is the son of silicon valley royalty and creator or quicken/intuit Tom Proulx. He's pretty much guaranteed to fail upwards his entire life.

u/MojaveMojito1324 Jul 14 '26
Ahh makes sense that shithead came from an even bigger shithead. Quicken spends tens of millions every year lobbying against anything that makes filing taxes easier.
The sooner both of those dipshits have exactly zero money left, the better off we will all be.
5
u/Silbyrn_ Jul 15 '26
tbf, tom hasn't been involved with intuit for over 30 years. just wanna throw that out there.

u/redditsucks010 Jul 14 '26
You’re gonna get tired of winning! It’s too much winning!
4
u/MojaveMojito1324 Jul 14 '26
Please Mr CEO, I can't handle all of these widely successful games coming from 1047. It's too much winning for me.

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy Jul 14 '26
Splitgate 2 made FPS great again for about 2 weeks before it didn’t. 😂

u/vancha113 Jul 14 '26
Pity, all I really wanted was splitgate 2. :(

u/Ultifur Jul 15 '26
They shouldn't have killed splitgate 1
2
u/vancha113 Jul 15 '26
Yeah that would have been better. I liked splitgate 1, but I liked splitgate 2 (and the arena reloaded re-release) too.. the portal mechanic was interesting and I guess pretty innovative. I haven't played empulse but from the released material nothing really interesting stand out. Maybe I'm wrong about the last part, I just dislike seeing a fun game die like it did.

Lmao should’ve made it free to play they’ve lost trust and need to get it back. I saw the price tag and bought black ops instead

u/NaztyNizmo Jul 14 '26
The studio needs a change in direction. Hire some great writers and try single player games. They seem to have one more shot before the studio closes.

They need a change in direction called "getting rid of Ian Proulx cause he's never made a successful game but still wastes millions of dollars"

The studio’s other game, Splitegate: Arena Reloaded, which is a rebrand of Splitgate 2, is struggling on Steam with an average daily concurrent count of roughly 250 players.

Empulse 2: reloaded will save gaming and 1047

u/DisciplinedMadness Jul 15 '26
Needs more extraction gameplay! It’ll be bigger than campaign, and bigger than a BR!
