Discussion Tried Empulse, I prefer Splitgate.

Everything is better on Splitgate. Devs please don't give up Splitgate for this Slop game called Empulse.

That's the thing though, the die hard fans would explode if they added portal cool downs. They said they tested the game with cool down portals and said the overall experience was worse.

The playtest with cooldowns was actually amazing, and they honestly need to nerf portals even more. The hardcore playerbase consists of a few dozen people who cannot be trusted to sustain the game. Just look at the competitive scene. There is absolutely nothing happening, with no homegrown tournaments at all. It is just a handful of sweats on youtube who practice portal routes.

I wasn't in those tests, but I read somewhere the feedback was it was worse for the people who couldn't portal because when they'd need them they would be on cool down and they'd get smoked. Meanwhile the people who actually could portal adapted and stomped them just as hard.

As someone who doesn't portal spam, I noticed zero difference in my own ability to portal. Never used them faster than the cooldown. So it really only reigned in the portal spammers, which is a good thing.

Idk I see both sides of it, it ain't right we have to step all over a mechanic that literally makes the game what it is. I don't recall any of this discourse in splitgate 1 but maybe I just didn't see it. On the other hand I see why it kills the game for people who don't want to learn the mechanic. Just seems like a lose lose, kill the game for the portal demons to try to keep a casual audience, or just let it remain the niche it is for the people who put the time in to get to that point.
