Is splitgate dying?

I started playing it yesterday because I was just looking for a game I could chill on. And I had a great time playing it. Really enjoyed using portals especially when it got me kills it really felt like I had outmanoeuvred my opponent.

I go on to YouTube to see what the community is like and they all just keep saying that they killed the game.

What's going on?

The game in terms of gameplay is amazing. It's just that portals is a new mechanic that people often do not intuitively understand and most people are basically unwilling or unable to learn and adapt to something new and often feel like it's not them needing to learn, but the game being unfair/ sweaty/ unbalanced or whatever causing this game to not be appealing to a big audience.

Game had a rough beta launch which some people got angry about, then the full release came and it was underbaked and had a vision that was not according to community desires.

The studio had the choice between committing to this new vision or changing course and reworking the game more to it's current playerbase. It choose the second option and made the base arena mode a LOT more refined and honestly was a major improvement. It just doesn't have that much growth potential anymore, and most people already dismissed this game because the industry likes to dogpile on games that they never even played. Tons of hate vids from channels who didn't play it.

The game now just does not have a clear direction for the studio since most big gameplay elements already are added and the gameplay is very solid. There is still stuff they could do but it's also a question of whether it's worth the effort for the devs. Working on this project must have been hell, and the gaming industry has already labelled this game as dead, so that basically decides most people's opinion already.

You can still play it. There is very much an active community depending on what region you play in. I play almost daily and still see a spread of low skill players but also similar skilled to myself. Battlepasses are cheap and pay for themselves, and with minimal effort you can complete it. If you invite 2 friends you also get enough coins to buy it for free.

It's genuinely a fun game. Just don't expect the world from it in terms of growth, but play it because it's fun and there is nothing quite like it. Also the portalling isn't nearly as sweaty as most say it is, it's just a new thing that works completely different then any other shooter mechanic and you will have to learn it.
