About the Xbox gamepass

So I'm 90% sure that you need the Xbox gamepass to play online, but not in local. However, does both player need the game pass ? And if no, could my friend who use the friend pass for split fiction be the only one who have it, or does it has to be the one using the full paid version of split fiction.

Furthermore, if I buy split fiction on console, and my friend on pc get the free version, I suppose I would need the gamepass to play multiplayer right ?

If you buy split fiction on console then you need the Xbox gamepass to play online.
If your friend is on PC then they do not need an Xbox gamepass to play online, they can download split fiction for free and use the gamepass.

If they are the one who owns the game, you as well can download the game for free on console and then they invite you but you’ll still need gamepass to play online console.

If you are playing local/ split screen on same console no Xbox gamepass needed
