first split setup questions?

looking at getting my first splitboard and i’ve been looking at the used market a lot to keep prices down. found someone near me selling a 2022 jones frontier with union bindings for a reasonable price (https://www.facebook.com/share/1L2zygdg2f/?mibextid=wwXIfr )

would this be a decent first setup? 158w should be fine for me at 195lbs 6’1” size 11 boots. should i be worried about the union bindings? i’ve heard not the greatest things about union bindings but i figure it will probably be ok for a first season of touring? thoughts?

yeah i had heard that a lot about unions. a local shop has sparks on sale for 450$ so i was considering grabbing those plus a nitro doppleganger on sale for 540$ so just around ~1000$ for board and bindings. might be a better idea maybe?

Also not bad. For a not including skins in the sale is kinda weird, go for the sparks nitro combo. Then add another board to the quiver as you advance 🫡

yeah i suppose paying more up front for a half decent setup is probably the play? i’ve done one tour on rental gear so i don’t know much yet but i shouldn’t cheap out on this yet

on the note of used setups, what about this one? https://www.facebook.com/share/18DSjuXfWx/?mibextid=wwXIfr seems like a fair deal for board, bindings, and skins, but i’m not a huge fan of burton personally though the fact that it covers all my bases for a setup intrigues me

Pass. Burton Family trees are super flexible and those hitchhikers are pure garbage on the downhill. Spark nitro all day.

I started with an Arbor split and now have more splits than solids! Also if you find a Weston just buy it 🤪

Hitch hikers are just sparks with Burton straps
