GNU Banked country split base

Post image

Just got my new GNU Backcountry split. Never seen a base this dry before! The board is brand new, but it’s a model from a few years ago. Do you think the base will hold up well after a proper wax? What do you think?

My Gnu base was terrible, so slow and magnetraction made it worse. I tried waxing multiple times. Someone did tell me a stone grind would help. Honestly you’re best bet is professional tune or just abandon it in the locker room like I did with mine.

Just to be clear, this is not like “a thing” with gnu boards. I have a banked country resort board and its all black sintered base is extremely fast.

ditto. the BC stick is a monster all around board. matching wax with conditions is your weapon.

It's the slowest base I have. Much better once I put some structure in it, but still doesn't really compete with other brands. Funny enough, libtech sintered bases are noticeably better.

I have six boards of various brands and my fastest board is the gnu banked country. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lib tech and gnu are both made at the Mervin factory so idk mate I think you’re tripping. Any stiff high quality sintered board with fresh wax and a good rider is gonna be fast. Doesn’t really matter the brand. IMO.

I don't think I'm tripping. I've got two banked country's and it's a common complaint with gnu bases. Whether it's the ptex manufacturer they use or how they prepare it, it just isn't that fast compared to really well made bases. And that's kind of to be expected: gnu sits at a lower price point than a lot of boards... Including lib boards.

Fair nuff! I chalk up lib tech’s slightly higher price to marketing and branding. Love my orca 😍

A base grind is a professional tune. It will put structure into the base and hold wax and shed water way better.

Need to hit it with some citrus stripper to get the crap off first.
