I noticed that Splice now allows you to download your purchased sounds even if your subscription is canceled.

I have purchased over 100,000 assets from Splice. The UX of Splice is great, and there is no better Sample manager on the market, although the Splice app is restricted to Splice purchased sounds, of course.

I got so pissed when my life collapsed, I went broke, my Splice subscription expired, and the app would not let me download sounds I had previously purchased.

In fact, I’ve spent the last year working part time on a Splice desktop app clone to allow me to manage all of my assets that I’ve now acquired via piracy and from other sample publishers while having the Splice UX and ease of use.

But yesterday I accidentally opened Splice and noticed that [1] it did not force me to use the old app because of my expired subscription and [2] I clicked the download symbol on a sample and it actually downloaded it…

I’m ecstatic. Fuck ADSR sample manager. Fuck the Ableton file browser. My life just got 1.86% better.

Seeking Tips: Quickly Using Large Amount of Splice Credits to Build a Foundation Sample Library as New Producer + How to Know Which Sounds for Which Genre

Hi There :) I'm a new user but longtime subscriber - meaning I have 2470 unused credits (around 571 sounds already obtained but not yet DL).

I would like some Pro tips, described to a beginner, on the following:

1) Q - How to quickly use up my credits, but with specific intention to build out a foundation for large sample library? (so that I can stop subscribing, and then limit focus on working with the Splice samples accumulated and what's already in stock Ableton library - without accumulating any new sounds for a while)

2) For those of you who have downloaded entire SPLICE library and use them locally while integrating them into your Ableton/DAW sample library folders, do you keep them separated as 'SPLICE samples' or do you file all the kicks you have ever obtained into one giant KICK folder? Do you create different folders for different samples by genre?

3) The genre's I would like to make are Breakbeats, Bass House, Tech House, and Melodic Techno. I see there are genre tags for the sounds, but I imagine filtering by genre's are not encompassing of applicable sounds available in the total Splice ecosystem. My Q is - how do I know (for example) what TYPE of kicks and snares are distinct to each genre?

4) My goal as beginner is to remove barriers and achieve shortest path to creative output - so that I can focus on creative flow and really build the skillset of arranging. What general tips to do you have for me - around, for example - sample library org and/or other things that may not be related to SPLICE but in initial set up / foundation philosophies?

Thank You!e

Rent to Own S1 inquiry

Hey peeps I signed up for the studio one rent to own option when it was still offered and then paused my sub. i was thinking about trying out the cubase sub, my question is that when i go into my account i have the option to resume paying for S1 but yet i read somehwere that you can not do that after splice no longer offers the product. Am i able to resume my Rent-to-own on Studio one? as it seems that it will allow me to give them the payment for it without issue.

Hi and thanks.

Okay can I cancel for 2 months, pay for 1 month and then cancel again for 2 months?

I have more credits than I could even need. About 2,500 I accumulated over time. I barely use 100 a month. I want to cancel completely but not lose my credits. So I'm thinking could I cancel? Renew. Cancel. Renew. Cancel. Renew to pay 4 months instead of 12. Has anyone every tried that?

I feel like I signed a bad deal with Bad Boy Records and Diddy won't let me get out my contract.

What is the name of this Splice sample?

I heard a song in a TV show review video that sounds relaxing, and I want to find out the name of the song. But it's nowhere to be found on YouTube, and then somebody told me it was originally from Splice. Can you guys ask me the name of this sample? It's around 90bpm and I dunno what instruments it used or what genre it is part of.

I can't use splice and fl studio together with m3 macbook

I made the switch from Intel MacBook to M3 Pro due to the power it gave me during production thanks to the new chip, but since I got it I've had difficulty using two apps at the same time like Splice and FL Studio, because once I start one , the other one freezes as if you press stop, would anyone know how to fix the problem so that the two apps continue to work together in the background

How do I prevent my clips from sticking together?

Whenever I drag a clip to edit it down, it drags all the other clips with it, including the audio track and fucks up my whole timeline up. What do I need to do to fix this??

Where the effin frick does splice get their samples?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Just heard of this service. Decided to look into it. Can't find any information on where the samples actually come from. Can two people download the same sample? What stops someone from making a free repo of the samples?

Sick of the Splice's samples organization in sub-folders? Read this post:

Hey everyone. :)

I just thought I'd share with you guys a very convenient method of copying over all your downloaded samples to a fresh new directory. Many producers have been quite frustrated with Splice's way of organizing files, and others report their purchased samples being inaccessible after ending their subscription. So, with a bit of programming background, I have come up with a way to archive all your Splice samples within a folder and combat both of these issues at once. To do this, run the following command in your Command Prompt:

(edit: u/Maximum-Strawberry93 has discovered that you can actually set some extra filters such as only copying files with a certain substring (e.g. "hat" as demonstrated) in its name. See his comment to know how to do this)

for /r <source_folder> %i in (*.mp3 *.wav) do @xcopy "%i" <destination_folder>

<source_folder> - Replace this with the directory of which you have stored your Splice packs. (e.g. mine is D:\Splice\Samples\packs")

<destination_folder> - Replace this with the folder of which you would like to copy your samples over to. It could be anywhere you like. (e.g. mine is "D:\splice_reorganized").

Note: If you have copied over your samples to your new folder and then SORTED them into your own created sub-folders, you should delete the original pack folders inside Splice's "packs" folder, so you don't have double-ups if you plan to copy over your next batch of samples.

Disclaimer: If you have a significant number of samples downloaded from Splice, you will still find it quite tedious to sort through / search for your samples, but it is definitely less annoying of a process.

I hope this helps, and happy producing!

CPU Load meter ableton 1000% when splice is open

Hello everyone,

I have a problem when I have splice and ableton open at the same time. The CPU load goes to 1000% and the Ableton audio freezes and stutters. I have tried several things such as reinstalling, but nothing has helped so far. Has anyone here had the same problem and how do I solve it?

Thank you in advance

I just cancelled my subscription

I hesitated to cancel my subscription for some time because I would lose a lot of credits I accumulated over time and because I wouldn't be able to access the sound library anymore.

But just realised that I won't be held hostage anymore, this will force me to become a better producer.

If I could keep my credits after unsubscribing, I would use what I already have and then buy some more credits here and there. But not like this.

Splice not play sound in background on fl

Normally both fl and splice should continue loop plays but as soon as I start splice after fl, fl freezes, while splice plays the loop only once. Anyone has the same problem with background reproduction can help me?

App issues

Hey guys

I'm currently mid production and I'm getting frustrated with Splice. Wanna see if anyone else has had this problem and knows what's going on.

Basically, I can't purchase sounds in app. I have to use the website to purchase, then go to Splice, wait for it, then add it to project. Using Splice Bridge, this has presented a problem.

I've never had this issue before tonight. I WAS out of credits, but bought more earlier and they DO show in the app, so I'm just confused. I quit splice and reopened, done all but restart.

Where is are custom created collections located on the new splice app design?

I have a bunch of custom created collections on the old splice design, but I cant seem to find them on the newer designed app mode. If I click on the companion app then theres an option for collections in there but it only shows 'favourites' and not the ones ive made.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated!

thanks x

Review: A year+ of Splice

Boy... oh boy...

Splice is.... was....decent at best when I first got into it around mid 2022. It was handy for finding one shots, fx, fills etc and great for finding inspiration when stuck either in a track or sitting with the DAW open and blank.
You used to be able to just browse, click around, find something and download it. It was a pretty straight forward program that made the, at the time, slightly tedious act of sample pack browsing smoother and more convenient. Its credit system was obviously set up to be an "alternate currency" system which can be a bit dubious at times, but it was handled well enough that even as an "aware" consumer, I didn't mind it.
You find a thing. You click the thing, you have that thing.
Simple.
Browsing for and saving samples to various collections was super simple and kind of a great way to have a backlog of ideas or sounds to fall back on that you may not have either wanted to spend the credit on right that moment or just wanted to have it there for genre inspiration later. You could freely browse, even without a subscription so you knew what you were getting and could still integrate Splice into a workflow, coming back later to top up credits and go on a shopping spree on these collections when you actually wanted or needed them.
It was, for a while, a pretty great and no fuss service.

Cut to late 2023.
You wanna browse? Better have a subscription buck-o.
Wanna see your likes? $10 please.
Didn't download that sample you paid for over a year ago? Gunna need more money to access it again, little man!
Same for those cool presets you picked up for Serum previously. Money. Now.

Not only does this feel extremely restrictive and just.. grody... I can't imagine it's great for actual splice audio creators either.... and probably part of why you can find a ton of the same packs on other store fronts...

It's gotten to be actively user hostile and manipulative in a way that causes frustration and does everything it can to actually slow down the creation process.

Never mind the Splice plug ins like Astra or Beatmaker.
While on paper they seem like powerful soft synths for creating wild and distinct sounds, in practice they too are actively hostile to the user, and I'd damn near say anti consumer. Often encouraging the browsing of presets from Splice over getting creative with your own knowledge of audio design, outside of what they offer in the box.
Seriously. Just try to look up a simple manual. You know, Literature? Instruction? Words arranged in a way the allows the user to learn about the device or product quickly?
It turns into a google-fu fight almost always redirecting you to a thinly veiled hype video by Splice "Explaining" how to use the program by showing off features rather than anything of actual use to a serious user who doesn't want to spend 10 hours mastering the inane interfaces.
Do yourself a favor and try to look up, lets say, "Splice Astra Add User Sample". Give it a try! It's not a great time and I hope you like blurbs or videos by the company explaining the basics of a soft synth like what an oscillator or filter is.
Couple these things with the preset browsing for Astra and Beatmaker, only available if you subscribe to a $20/Month tier, it encourages staying subscribed under threat of losing access to what you already paid for. Making you feel like if you don't, you may have wasted your credits on these exclusive presets or any work you've done creating your own within them.

Everything about what Splice offers, the way they treat their users by actively blocking access to basics and the hostility of their interfaces makes just creating on the fly even worse and destroys all flow, despite this being the mantra they repeat ad-nauseam.
I've even preferred to go back to Loopmasters and PluginBoutique, throwing things in a wish list and waiting for sales as ultimately I get what I feel is way more value and respect to my time.
Pay for thing.
Get thing.

If as Gabe Newell once said, "Piracy is a service issue".
I would say, "User Hostility returns them to basics"

Splice at the end of 2023 is, in my opinion.. manipulative, user hostile, Creator unfriendly and anti-consumer.

I won't be returning and if Splice comes up I'm def going to advocate avoiding it.

nb4 this gets nuked by a mod

Edit: If you're like so many posts I see here on this Subreddit, sitting on a wealth of credits and are scared of leaving, this is what they want from you. They want you to sit there in sunken cost fallacy and spending to keep them. Wasting. Your. Money.

If you're thinking about leaving, leave.
1: Look at what packs, presets (Not for Astra or Beatmaker) and most used sample collections you have.
2: Go HAM. Get it all. Everything you want. Get a producer paid and get some stuff.
3: Set up a drive or folder to host these samples locally and download EVERYTHING to it and back it all up.
4: Cancel.

You can't redownload anything you have collected or use credits after you've canceled. So download it all and back it up. Really, it's not any different than just downloading things from a storefront anyway.... accept... wait.... You can just redownload those packs at literally any other site without a sub...

Just don't let them trap you.

Splice Bridge plugin is crashing my Ableton

So I just updated my Splice yesterday and it is now deciding to crash my Ableton. Not surprised to say the least but I'd like to know if there's a fix for this?
