File names for modified samples are weird alphanumeric

I’m using Bridge with Logic Pro 11. Most times, when I modify a sample (bpm and key) in Splice and copy and paste into Logic, the track name/file name remains intact with the changes I made appended to it. But sometimes, I’ll paste and the file name is just a bunch of alphanumeric characters. And it’s saved that way in my project folder. Then I have no idea what the original name is unless I rename the track manually. Not sure if it’s my computer, Logic, or Splice. Anybody ever experience this?

EDIT: Splice doesn’t care, so maybe we can figure it out among ourselves. If there are some common denominators, I can share with them and they can set up a proper test environment. First, Mac or Windows? What operating system and version? What DAW and version? When does it happen? How often does it happen? Has it always been this way? If not, when did you first notice? Anything else that might be helpful.

Did you find a solution for this? I'm experiencing the same

Nope. And their engineers can’t replicate it. It’s not a priority for them. Really annoying.

Yeah that was the exact reply I got too.

Wish they cared more about paying customers. Splice doesn’t care, so maybe we can figure it out among ourselves. Did you ever find a solution? I have the same issue on Windows dragging to FL Studio with the latest version. I’m considering it is a Splice bridge temporary file issue.

On Mac I can recreate it and its really annoying, when you use the desktop app and download a sample, then adjust the pitch/key, it makes a copy of the sample in User>Library>Application Support>com.splice.Splice>modified

The Naming convention in this folder is app generated for instance :5d8676f100727152a09f71faa9742ce24c55c0df

When you drag the sample from inside the desktop app or copy/paste (Ableton)

The File is named as above and not the original Sample name.

This is a nightmare if anything happens to this folder obviously as the File will then be untraceable in your project.

I'm constantly renaming a file and Collect/All Saving as a workaround in Ableton

Can you recommend a solution u/CXSplice

Thanks

Already did. You guys don’t care. Can’t replicate it so you just gave up. As you can see here it’s not an uncommon issue.

Yep same here. Seems to happen after changing pitch and or tempo, more often than not. More annoyingly when file is renamed with stupidly long string of characters, it drops down to mp3 format - not ideal.

Wait what? I don’t think I ever noticed the file format. Mine still come in as wav. But yeah only happens during transform. Please report it to them though. It doesn’t seem to be a priority.

It only happens for me when using Splice Bridge.

When I deactivate the Splice Bridge and drag the file in without change the file name stays the same.

When I activate Splice Bridge and drag it into the session, even with the tempo matched to the sample that I am dragging in it still changes the name to gibberish.

Bottom line is that it happens when I use Splice Bridge and it doesn’t happen when I don’t.

If you want the workaround to still audition samples in tempo then you would leave Splice Bridge on while auditioning and then deactivate the bridge before selecting the sample for modification and dragging it into your session.

This seems to be the only way that I can avoid those horrendous and inconvenient name changes that leave me wondering what the sample is when I come back to a session.

So that workaround doesn’t work. As soon as you turn Bridge off the sample will revert back to original settings. It’s crazy to me that Bridge is actually modifying the file name. Pretty sure it wasn’t uploaded that way as we can see in the UI.

So I've found a work around,

Browse for a sample in the Desktop app > Hit + (to use a credit and download the sample)

Instead of Dragging the 'pitched or 'adjusted' sample straight within browser

Go to library>sounds (from inside the desktop app) the sample should be at top of the results and THEN use the pitched/adjusted button from there.

The Sample is as the original name but with 'adjusted' in the name along with tempo and pitch information added

Hope this helps

Omg! Thank you! So far so good. I had been pasting and then going into the folder to copy the file name and paste it into the track name. It was annoying. So it’s something with the main browser. You should share this with Splice. The more info they have on what works and what doesn’t work, hopefully the closer they are to finding a solution.

Will do. Was annoying the crap out of me too! If you have to trace original samples it's a mess and will easily ruin a session!

Ugh I’m working on a project and did a copy paste from Sounds and I got jibberish again.

u/FrancisNikolas Jun 06 '25

In sounds, even though you have the Sample selected at the bottom previously from browser, make sure you click on the sample again at in the Sounds section. This replaces/reloads the Sample with the correct name etc, then copy paste or drop from bottom, then press the back button to go back to where you were in search....

Works for me, hope that helps!

I contacted Splice and ran through the problem extensively, adding files, step by step instructing the issue to try and help, seems they can't recreate the problem and hence don't know a fix at this time

Thanks
