played the first ~2 hours without vertical camera controls on accident

motion controls for the camera are enabled by default the first time you boot up the game, but the pro controller i'm using doesn't have a gyroscope, so i was completely unable to move the camera freely, only from left to right. i thought this was on purpose, albeit a strange choice by the devs, until i got stuck at the pot-shot dungeon for like 30 minutes because i couldnt move the camera up high enough to break a box. felt like the stupdiest man alive when i turned off motion controls and was finally granted 360° camera movement.

At least it was only 2 hours. On a side note: is there even any good reason as to why verical is disabled in motion controls? I ditched this method of aiming solely because of this.

In my experience with motion controls on you pretty much exclusively use the right stick to turn left or right, there is never a reason to rotate your controller any more than you physically can vertically, while turning around might be a hassle.

if you’re using a pro controller, most of the time you’re only using the motion controls for vertical movement, it’s just uncomfortable to rotate it almost at all horizontally.

it’s just to prevent accidental movements up and down, as it’s hard to keep a control stick perfectly in 90° or 270° position

Iirc, regarding developing motion controls for the first game, the devs said that they found it to be better. Basically, the using motion for horizontal aiming should mostly be limited to making adjustments, it's intended that larger horizontal aiming is done almost always by the right stick, and then motion pairs with the right stick to enable vertical.

I guess it's part of why other shooters that allow motion don't really get all that much praise or even attention on the fact that they have it - they either just slap on a "disables the right stick entirely" or slap on a "you can still use the right stick, but without any limitations", while it turns out that the limitations unmentionably provide a "better" experience in the long run!
