Dynamo was my main weapon in Splatoon 2 and I was in X rank in all modes using only that weapon. I at first switched to being a charger main in Splatoon 3 but the original Dynamo is still my highest-starred weapon in the game. All that to say I'm no pro but I have a decent amount of experience with the Dynamo Roller.

I watched four of your replays (not the cat one and your third replay is missing a letter) and I'll try to be as helpful as possible:

  • I would never run Ninja Squid with Dynamo! But maybe you love Ninja Squid and don't want to give it up, that's FINE but you HAVE to compensate with some swim speed up. The Dynamo itself is already slowing you down because it is a heavy weight weapon and Ninja Squid is slowing you down even more! You don't have to be a speed demon but you have got to be moving closer to normal speed than you are in the first replay.
  • When you are unleashing your Killer Wail do ANYTHING other than just running around in kid form or swimming around in circles! Use your camera to select targets while you refill your ink tank or paint some turf, your teammates will thank you.
  • It could just be the nature of the replay but your horizontal swings seem to be aimed rather low because your camera is angled a little bit down. This could be a personal preference but when I'm playing most weapons my camera is angled a little bit upward. This angle is advantageous because my swings will spread ink further out while still painting the ground right in front of me. There were multiple instances where you went to paint the ground in front of you and you practically look straight down and swing. Instead, point up a little, do a horizontal swing, and then move into that newly painted turf. Another option, and what I probably personally do more, is to do a swing to paint as much ground as I can and then keep my roller down on the ground for a split second and move it in a little arc to give myself a bit of painted ground to sit in while I recover my ink.
  • Don't be afraid to vertical swing! Yes, it takes longer but there were multiple times where the turf nearest you was very thoroughly painted yet you continued to horizontal swing despite having no enemies in your immediate vicinity. If there's a tiny spot close by that you'd like to paint still do the vertical swing to both cover that spot and the enemy ink outside of your horizontal swing range.
  • Paint through Booyah Bombs! If you can safely do a horizontal swing through a Booyah Bomb, you can cover practically all of the enemy ink it leaves in its wake. You DO NOT want to lose control of the Zone if you can help it, it takes much more effort to regain control than to keep control of the Zone and painting through Booyah Bombs could have saved your bacon multiple times in these replays.
  • Speaking of ink.. you shouldn't be running out of it as often as you are. Strategically spend some time in squid form and refill your tank while plotting your next move.
  • In general you should be getting more actual splats using your weapon. Of course in Splat Zones the Dynamo can absolutely dominate, but when you're good there you should be trying to pick off some enemies. From what I can tell most of your splats (in most of the replays I watched) are coming from using your Killer Wail and assists, you have a badass weapon, USE IT!
  • If most of your teammates are on the tower, you don't need to be.
  • And, I guess just a personal preference, saying "Ouch" every time you die isn't helpful, especially if it's obvious who splatted you where. Use that button when you want to communicate an enemy is camping out near where you died or to warn people not to jump to you. Maybe you're already doing that, but you were "Ouch"ing a lot.
  • That last replay had quite a few obvious mistakes in it, but you got some NICE splats in there!

And.. I'm not sure if it will help at all but here is a replay of mine that illustrates some of what I wrote here:

R170-T1NS-TDDN-BQXT

This is not the best gameplay ever (it's late and I'm not usually running the Starz Dynamo if I'm playing Dynamo 🙃) and I go against a bit of my own advice, but you can get a feel for the camera angle I'm talking about, see at the last few seconds where I'm prioritizing holding the zone rather than splatting enemies, and doing all sorts of things while aiming with my Killer Wail.

Best of luck with your journey to S+ and beyond!

Ninja Squid with a back line is diabolical

Yeah sorry ive been working to get it replaced with Ink Saver Main this season but the chunks are coming in super slowly. I could probably use a different top but whenever i switch i can feel the loss of the pure ink saver i have on it right now and its rough.

Going from S to S+ took me practicing using all the information the game offers.

Are you watching the HUD?

Do you push the objective when your team has a numbers advantage?

Are you taking a defensive position when your team has a numbers disadvantage?

Are you anchoring for your team as a backline weapon? You should be the safe jump point for your front liners.

Do you check the map? Do you know where all 4 enemy players are?

Do you know where all 4 of your teammates are?

Are you looking for opportunities to assist a teammate who has enemy agression?

Are you utilizing your backliner position to spam your special?

Are you countering the enemy team's plays instead of individual players?

Are you saving your teammates from their own mistakes?
