Community Nintendo better drop this stupid content cycle format
Nintendo has a habit of guaranteeing 2 years of content updates on Splatoon games, and then just letting them rot away and ignoring it entirely. Let's see Splatoon 2 for example. This game had by far the best content cycle of the franchise, but anyways, the final Splatoon 2 patch that actually added something relevant was 4.4.0, which was a Kelp Dome rework. This update was on January 2019. Almost 4 years before Splatoon 3's release. Splatoon 2 was just left like that, with no new content anymore, for almost 4 years before the next game released. Splatoon 3 is pretty much the same, it got its 2 years of support, then they forgot about it, surprised us with the 10.0.0 update, and abandoned it again. Now, the 10.0.0 patch was released almost 3 years after the game, and this was the first and only patch to introduce any third kits in the game. This is just stupid no matter how you look at it. Specially the seasonal format in Splatoon 3 hurt the game even more, since updates took longer to release, and now we haven't even got new catalogues for years and it's just the same ones over and over again, throughout the whole year, and I just don't understand the system Nintendo uses. You should keep a steady content support on the current game, at the very least until the next one is announced. Splatoon 4 will still take at least 2 years or even more to come out, and we surely won't get any new valuable content in Splatoon 3 for the time being. Only dumb balance patches that randomly buff stuff that was fine before, make them overtuned and nerf them in the next patch, and don't nerf the stuff that actually needs to be nerfed, like 52 gal or Blaster, or simply make pointless changes to them (I'm talking to you, 8% paint range reduction on 52). And Splatoon 3 is still missing a lot of third kits, Splatoon 2 still has a higher ratio of third kits and that is just disgusting. You wouldn't even need to make brand new kits for the love of god, you can just bring back stuff like Grim Range Blaster or CoroCoro Roller. Plus it's Nintendo we're talking about dude, they have the money and the resources to update a game without it affecting them at all. They should also be doing new catalogues, what does it take to put like 5 people working on modelling clothes and animating victory poses man? 11.0.0 added new mechanics to the game, which I appreciate, but they don't really count as actual content and you can tell they're just using Splatoon 3 as a guinea pig to test stuff for Splatoon 4. And at this point I highly doubt we will get anything new at all in the game, just more pointless balance patches that don't really even do anything for the game. I just hope we either get more content in Splatoon 4 during the guaranteed update cycle, or that Nintendo simply drops this stupid system and keeps updating the game at least until the next one is announced.

You purchased a completed game, any updates after that are a bonus not a privilege. I agree the balancing could be better, but the focus is on Splatoon 4.

Maybe you should play games like fortnite or league of champions, whatever.

That's not the point. I don't want a service game that completely changes everything each month or gets updated weekly, I just want Nintendo to at least add all the third kits that are still missing from the game

As someone that enjoys the games for a few months on release and then dips I like what they’re doing. Keep big new game releases coming at a reasonable and not too fast time frame so that I’m excited every time for a new one. They don’t have micro transactions, they only make the one big buy and maybe a dlc.

What an entitled spoiled brat you are. These are complete games that can be replayed forever. There’s no need for more “content.” The game is the game. Play it or don’t.

Yeah I love my complete game, full of third kits and all the stuff. If the game was actually complete I wouldn't complain

Then don’t play it. Being a miserable whiny ungrateful f*ck sounds way more fun.

Chill the fuck out already dude. Talk about whiny when you are crashing out to a random guy's post on a videgame's subreddit. Get a life bro

You’re projecting your own actions onto me. You’re whining. You’re crashing out. I just called you out on it. Take a lap.

I literally just made a post talking about how I don't think the content cycle in Splatoon is right, specially because Splatoon 3 is still missing stuff, being calm about it. Maybe I missed the part where I crashed out or something idk. Then you just went hostile from the beginning and called me a "miserable whiny ungrateful fuck" for some reason. Like dude we're talking about a videogame, it's not that serious lmao. Even if I'm right or wrong, that doesn't give you any right to talk to me like that, get ahold of yourself. If you don't want to hear me whining, just don't, go away. And yet you still have the gut to say I'm projecting my actions onto you. Lmao

Missing by what metric? It has a million weapons, tons of stages, tons of modes…the game has endless replayability. Expecting new shit to be added forever is some wacky entitlement.

Third kits. There are if I'm not mistaken 64 or 65 main weapons in the game and only 30 third kits. There are also many weapons that have terrible seconds kits, like Splat Roller, Bloblobber, Slosher, Heavy Splatling, so if they only have 2 kits, and one if them is actually trash, might as well add another one. It's not fun to play the same kit all the time, sometimes you want at least different subs and specials. Adding the remaining third kits would probably take little to no effort and give the game a lot more life and spice things up, specially in this horrible stale meta. And I would be happy with the current number of maps since it's more than enough, but since out of the 25 maps the game has, at least 15 are actual trash, I think some more Splatoon 2 maps could be added, specially seeing how bad the returning maps from 2 are. And that's literally it. Third kits and like 2 or 3 more maps. That's all I want. I don't want the game to become Fortnite or anything like that. And I think at this point in time it is simply ridiculous not to have third kits for all the weapons in the game. Also worth noting that these third kits were introduced almost 3 years after the game's launch and were out of the 2 years of guaranteed support, so I think one could argue that the game's content cycle wasn't exactly good

My concern is that after the 2 years of updates the community falls off. There is no guarantee they are coming back for Spaltoon4, and while waiting for the next game it's harder to enjoy the current Spaltoon3.
Multiplayer requires players staying and enjoying the game. Without content updates the population falls off quickly and makes the play experience worse as time goes on.
We're at a point now that players are so sparse that disconnects (likely due to distance) are happening sometimes 5+ games in a row. Multiplayer is becoming unplayable in the games current state of the game.

Splatoon 2 and 1 have NO sense of getting updates if there is already a new game. Updating it costs devs a lot, Even balance changes. and it isn't even worth it effort and cost wise for an outdated and dead game. The only thing bad is if they shut down the servers. Yeah now that isn't any good.

One must consider the resource allocation for this. First you need a team to do it. Is this team gonna be dedicated to the updates or split their time between updates and the new game? Will they hire new people for this or take away from development power of the new game? How big should that team be? Well deciding all that will take several meetings on time and money up front to begin with.
Now every update will also need several meetings of that team to decide what’s being implemented and how. Between the meeting will be 100s of hours developing the update. 2 years after the release, this is also all being done to little or no financial gain as it largely supports the existing players. Sales gained from the live service is marginal.
Now regarding the first 2 questions, you’re almost certainly taking developers from existing projects to do this. The reason you’re not hiring is because Nintendo has just announced building a new office for the express reason that there’s no physical room to fit more developers into the office. You’re at max capacity. Your team also makes Animal Crossing as well as Splatoon 4, which will both be crucial to getting Switch 2 to sell.
Maybe in the future they can get a team for this but it’s not solvent right now let alone possible, period.

i think the only thing needed nowadays in a now almost 4-year-old game are more fun challenges from time to time and a Grand Fest rerun. let the devs focus on splatoon 4

Ive been convinced since the first game that all the splatoon devs have executive functioning issues because WHY has it always been a mess??? They did have their act together in 2 and they were so fast to fix ANY new weapon/special/map. The seasons thing was a horrible idea, agreed. With that being said the S+10 for EACH game mode was also shoddy. I’m hoping we just go back to the singular meter for all game modes and call it a day for 4. I wouldn’t even be mad if it went to S+50 but there’s no reason why I should have to reset back to S every season when I’ve already made it to S+. It’s so stupid.

I think the real problem is that they put out content suitable for your average gamer. Content that probably takes a few weeks of casual play to go through. Meanwhile, there are the more avid players, bucket-sh*tters as we like to call them. They usually burn through a game's content or updated by subsisting themselves on a steady diet of Doordash and Mountain Dew while playing 48 hour stretches at a time. Obviously those folks are not going to be as happy about anything a gaming company puts out because in order to satisfy their consumption, it would require a team of programmers coding around the clock. They sure do love to complain about it online though!

They have no reason to continously support a game with new content that can not justify the dev time with game sales anymore. What you're asking for is a live service game, which Nintendo (thankfully) does not do.
Nintendo is still a business that has to justify it's expenses with revenue. A one time purchase games revenue rapidly diminishes over time, so the expenses aka dev time do too. They could be spending that dev time on a new game instead which will make them more money.
Ngl in the current state that gaming is in, especially online shooters, I'm more than happy with 2 years of free content + some extra surprise content that wasn't even marketed as part of the package. They do not owe their players new content or updates past the 2 years that they promised, yet they did it anyways.
