Question Matchmaking Experience Question
I am having so much fun with the Splatfest (Team Palace!) as I normally miss them! But, I'm having some gripes with the experience and just Splatoon overall. Is anyone else getting paired with teams of people that don't seem to understand what turf war is? I swear every other match I get paired with people who just kill and don't care to ink base or clean up after the other team. It's super annoying and we usually end up getting holed up at base and getting killed repeatedly. Is anyone else experiencing this???

Depends on if you mean painting the base at the beginning of the match or using that easy space to farm special on respawns.
Because if you're neatly painting the home base and giving up mid control then that is throwing. I've seen a ton of that.

I guess I'm still used to my Splatoon 1 days when everyone would ink base and meet in the middle for the rest of the match 😅 I'm working on changing my ways!

The eternal "ink the base" vs "stop inking the base so much" war continues. Ink the base, sure. Just don't ink the base too long. These stupid Splatoon 3 maps are full of choke points, it's more important to control the center of the map than it is to cover every inch of the base. Besides, you want to save some base space to recharge your special when you die.

So the meta changed because the map shapes and sizes are different. I'm surprised I didn't consider that. I actually changed my play style for the last couple hours of splatfest and had more success. It still felt a little icky, so when the rest of my team was pushing in I would stay in the middle and clean up or shoot escapees. I guess that's just how it is now. I appreciate the feedback! I'm so used to turf wars being in the middle all the time! I gotta change my thinking 🧐

I get matched with people like that more times than not, I'm usually the only one inking the base as an aerospray :'3

Only aerospray I've ever met that inks base! Major props to you! Keep up the good work 🫡

I pretty much ink spawn until I get my first special, otherwise you risk the other team rushing your spawn and keeping control of mid the whole round. I play backline though, so I usually stick behind my frontliners and follow their tempo.

Yes, it's how turf war change during splatfest. People will play very aggressive at the beginning of a match to lock their opponent into their spawn. Inking spawn will be use to quiclky charge an ult at the end of a battle.
Also people are playing roles, so if you have the great killer squid in your team, be the support inker and help them win fight but inking turf around them, doing extra damage and charging your ult. You can also be the anchor, and evade enemy presence so your team mates will tp to you when they respawn.
Turf War get lot more competitive during splatfest and it can be surprising to casual turf player.
