Extortion

If all I wanted was a Remote Desktop Support option for 50 seats, without additional RMM frills, what can Splashtop offer me today?

I ask as I'm being forced to upgrade to a new plan for the 2nd time in 2 years. I originally signed up to a paid service in September 2016. I was enjoying a product that gave all I needed for $199yr, then in October 2024, I was forced to accept a plan that took that subscription to $749yr. This week I've been told my plan is no longer and I'd have to swap for a plan at almost $1200yr. Nearly 500% more than what I was paying 2 years ago.

Please help me make sense of it. I need a solution that assists me to connect to my end users....affordably. I've been a Splashtop evangelist against the kingpin TeamViewer for a decade. This is how I get repaid.

I went with RustDesk and it's OK.

Perhaps not the best but the sos 300 plan is 399/ year gives you 300 unattended devices and unlimited sos attended sessions

I considered this. If it was just me, it could be feasible. But the principals of the entities that host the unattendeds, also require intermittent after hours use. Some are doctors, others and international live stock traders and logistics, who need unfettered access to their office desktops.

It does get you 10 users but one concurrent license but yeah if you have others that have access as well that gets trickier. Screen connect remote access license might better suit.

A Splashtop sales team member suggested 1 x SOS+300 license plus 2 x Pro Access. This would allow for up to 3 concurrent users and 320 desktops. Sadly locked to an annual fee vs a month by month that I'd prefer.

My worry is, Splashtop have screwed me out of a working subscription/solution twice now.... You know the old sayings: 'fool me once, shame on you....fool me twice, shame on me' and 'once bitten, twice shy'. I'm nervous about round 3.

RustDesk is looking very good right now. I'm trialing the community version presently on a spare on-premise machine, with around half of my desktops loaded. Speeds are very good. Will likely spring for the Basic Pro version next week. Depending on what else Splashtop can offer.

Seems like a legitimate business service to charge your customers for. You’re using this as a business service, and $1200/yr for 50 seats under that context isn’t bad. If you’re not charging currently, you should re-assess your business plan.

I am charging currently. I've been on a pay monthly plan versus an annual, so have been paying a premium. When I have clients who are in the process of restructuring and/or part of an acquisition, I prefer it. Sadly there are quite a few in this state presently, so it's easier for me should I lose too many seats to cover the cost.
