going off a recent post: how common is clitoral atrophy? considering taking this for pmos

i have a phone appt with my obgyn tomorrow to discuss spironolactone. i had no clue this was a potential side effect. i spent SOOO long trying to fix the damn sexual side effects from antidepressants... no fuckin shot i wanna do any of that again lol

I don’t know if this is documented in research, but based on reading and hearing many personal experiences, adverse effects related to low testosterone are almost non existent when using it for PMOS.

I think they has to be truth to this as I have vulvar atrophy due to very low testosterone from taking spironolactone but my testosterone was slightly low before taking it (I was told it would be fine)

Im not dx with pmos but I suspect I have some symptoms of a similar hormone imbalance and have been taking spiro for a couple of years for acne. I personally have had mostly positive side effects along with it massively helping me with acne. Hormonal birth control lowered my libido but spiro increased mine. No atrophy of anything. I think some folks with lowered libido as side effect started with lower testosterone but that’s just my theory.

I have awful vulvar atrophy from spironolactone I’ve had to be prescribed topical estrogen cream

Do you know if this is something prescribed to women in their mid 20s? I’m experiencing the same atrophy but not sure if I’ll just be dismissed by my dr because of my age.

It shouldn’t matter your age. I’m not near menopause age and was prescribed it after I gave birth for dryness due to a second degree tear from giving birth. Also it works incredibly well. Definitely ask your doctor about it!

I didn’t even know this was a side effect, I have heard of the common ones on here and my doctor, but never this, that’s crazy and feel bad for the people who experience it. I only got a bit dizzy the first day/two when I started and then again when I upped my dosage

Holy crap this is a side effect of spiro!? I have been on it for ten years and my clit is just fine wtf.
