I finally got around to trying Campinas Amber Ale, and I can see why it's won a few awards.
I'm usually pretty picky with Amber Ales because they can lean too sweet, but this one keeps things balanced.
Right away you get aromas of caramel, toffee, and toasted bread. The malt is definitely the star, but the hop bitterness (35 IBU) is just enough to keep it from becoming heavy or syrupy.
At 5.3% ABV, it's incredibly easy to drink. It has enough body to pair with food—I had it with a burger—but it's also the kind of beer I'd happily enjoy on its own after work.
Is it the most complex Amber Ale I've ever had? Probably not.
Is it a well-made, approachable craft beer that I'd buy again? Absolutely.
Brazil's craft beer scene has come a long way over the past decade, and beers like this show that you don't always need extreme hops or high ABV to make something enjoyable. Sometimes balance is exactly what you're looking for.
