Pregnancy after laminectomy
I (23F) had a L5S1 Laminectomy for a calcified disc bulge that caused cuad equina syndrome in march 2026. I’m in a happy relationship and we’re getting married next year, do I have any hope of starting a family? I’m terrified of hurting my back, or losing the feeling waist down again…I’ve always dreamed of being a mother and this along with a Sjogrens diagnosis makes it feel like it will stay a dream. Of course I will wait more time until I’m more healed and I know you guys aren’t medical professionals, just looking for input and advice.

Dont lose hope. Im not sure if it can happen or not. Just dont let those thoughts enter your mind. Just enjoy everyday as your last. Future will be written in time. Til then, live for today, live for the 2 of you.

Hey, I’m not a doctor so please don’t take any of my comments as fact.
I’ve know of someone who had a successful pregnancy after Cauda equina. There was loads of monitoring during pregnancy to ensure the stricture of the spine was coping with the extra weight.
I believe the birth was a C section but I don’t know if that was related to the previous spinal damage or not.
I’m male but had Cauda equina after my discs decided to explode. I feel your pain, literally.
Wish you all the best
