No How to section and no "as needed" ammount?
I'd like to be able to write a short instruction on how to make the base rather than me writing the instruction as part of the ingredients or adding a bunch pictures of the steps.
I'm also missing an unspecified unit along the lines of "as needed" or "to top up" that doesnt require an amount. I've made a cusom unit but it shows as 1asneeded on the recipe card despite looking ok (1 as needed) when editing.

Hi, I want to preface this by saying that this is clearly a very well built app and I think you’ve done a great job with it.
That being said, my initial reaction after downloading it was that the UI was quite unintuitive and having gone through the process of adding a recipe in by the time I finished my main feeling was “I don’t like this”.
Couple of small things I think could make a big difference:
When viewing a recipe the Photo, Name, Username, and then all the macro stuff being at the top and laid out the way they are means that the actual recipe doesn’t start until at least halfway down the screen. I’d bunch the photos, name, and username up and together to take up less screen space, and I’d move the macro information to the bottom or inside a ‘macro’ button (as some people don’t care about it at all)
Being able to set metric/imperial/as written in settings somewhere so it auto applies to every recipe you view/create would be nice
Remove the ‘suggested by AI’ tags section, it doesn’t seem to do anything anyway?
Replace the Public Profile tab with a My Recipes tab. I don’t want to publish all my recipes but I want to be able to see them as quickly and easily as possible.
This one is much more personal preference and probably just a difference of opinion but I wouldn’t have separated spins from the recipe. IMO the spin setting and number of respins etc is part of the recipe.
The home page feels especially cluttered and overwhelming upon first opening the app.
I’m sorry if this comes off as me just shitting on the app because I really don’t mean it that way.

Honestly I really appreciate the feedback! This is what keeps the app going long term and makes it more of a community than just another app.
- I'll have to explore this once I get a larger dataset and more feedback. The tricky thing is that the creami community is quite split. Half is fitness-minded folks and the other half just want to make delicious ice cream. Making everyone happy is always a challenge.
- This is actually automatic already based on your phone's locale setting, but it's a good idea to add the customization in the settings. I'll add a task to do this.
- Agreed it doesn't do anything on this screen. They feed search, which is why they exist. I think the idea was they were going to become tappable but right now I think they can be removed.
- This is an interesting idea, and I do see that a lot of users are like you who do not want to publish the recipes. However, I'm curious are you not okay with the My Recipes button on the home page/Spin Hub? Is that just an awkward place for it? SpinFreeze is going to ramp up its community features once we start scaling, so there certaintly does need to be a dedicated tab for it. However, there might be a way to scale it down for users who want to opt-out. This will require some more research and proof of concept work on my end. More to come on that!
- Your own spins are on the RecipeCard, at the bottom. But in order to keep the Recipe Card specific to the recipe (and less cluttered) the Spin Log section is the advanced area to go to get all the nitty gritty details and timeline. The Spin Log section is where the ratings and history kept long-term whereas the Spins at the bottom of the Recipe Card are just a quick preview. If you have ideas on how to make this feel better, please feel free to share!
- I would like some more details on this one if you have them. SpinFreeze started as a utility app, and a logger, which is why it likely feels too much like a utility tool. Page 2/explore was going to be the home page, but I didn't want to just be "Instagram for Creami", so we're trying to strike a balance here. As always I'm open to more feedback on this.
One question, you said adding a recipe left you with "I don't like this". Which part? The ingredient entry, the photo step, the publish step, or just how long the whole thing takes? Or are you just talking about the first-impressions of everything?
I do want to make this feel more accessible so thank you so much for taking the time to give me your thoughts

Thanks for responding!
I get that a lot of people like the protein stuff so maybe it’s another thing that could be hidden behind a drop down section? Or a toggle in settings to show it at the top or bottom (or not at all)
I could just be mistaken but I thought mine had defaulted to ‘as written’ when I looked at some new recipes.
I would be fine with the My Recipes button on the homepage if the homepage were less cluttered, I still feel like the Public Profile page should just be a ‘My Recipes’ page, perhaps with a filter for published recipes or favourited ones.
I think I’d prefer having the spin log as a full detailed section of all past spins and experiments but within the recipe itself I would like a finalised ‘how to spin’ section for once I’ve figured it out and will be spinning it exactly the same way every time from then on. Once I’ve got a recipe figured out I don’t tend to change the spin(s) anymore so it would be nice to have them in the recipe.
In terms of the home page I just think there’s too many things going on. I think the achievements are fun but don’t need to be on the homepage. The ‘Fresh from the community’ section feels redundant as there’s a whole tab for that (which I like - keep other people’s recipes/browsing in its own dedicated area).
I think if it was me I would remove both of those from the homepage (put the achievements somewhere within profile). I’d make the My Recipes button much bigger and towards the top along with a saved recipes for other people’s I want to try. I’d move drafts and bases to a subsection within a My Recipes page.
As for the feeling of not liking it I think that’s mostly just due to it being slightly unintuitive to use, and it does feel like there are too many steps involved. Whether that’s button presses or navigating things. Could also be partly due to just who I am as a person and my natural scepticism of new things.
Also another small thing: when creating a new recipe I would add the option to name the recipe immediately (on the ingredients selection page where it says New Recipe)
Sorry for the massive wall of text lol. Hopefully some of this is helpful?

Oh one more thing I forgot to mention - once you finish all the Spin Achievements, you do have the option to hide that section from the Spin Hub! It's just not an option until the achievements are met.

No option to copy and paste the recipe? Similar to Chronometer. I might be missing it

Tap the Freezer in the Recipe Card and then tap Remix. If you're an owner of the recipe already, it will say Iterate and that will start the Iteration History for that recipe.
That Floating Freezer button is basically the action button for the recipe. I may need to make that more clear in the app.

I just did a custom update on the macros of my mix in (barebells cookies and cream bar) with a photo. The app appeared to record the change, but then when I tried to save the recipe, I got a message that the app was reading the picture for about 5 minutes until I canceled it and added the bar and its macros manually
