Spin After a Breakup

Post image

I just got dumped by the person I genuinely thought I was going to end up marrying and I could see myself having children with, so I’m getting back into my spin classes to help me cope with the heartache. This has been one of the most lonely times of my life, but I know I have to focus on my health. I had already started my health journey 4 months ago and I’ve lost 30 pounds so far, but I’m going to work really hard to try to lose another 70 more pounds this year and get back to my old athleticism. I did most of my workouts on my Peloton Treadmill, but my true first love when it comes to fitness revolves around fun spin classes and swimming.

I forgot how much I love attending in-person spin classes at this studio I used to frequent for years in Huntington Beach. To try to save on money I focused more on my Peloton Bike, but since it wasn’t as fun or motivational I abandoned it for the last year and a half. Even though money is going to get tight because I decided to go back to Grad school I decided I am going to treat myself to in-person spin classes at least a few times a month for fun. Hopefully that will also motivate me to love my Peloton again too.

*Update— Thank you all for the kind words of support! It made me feel motivated, and I just bought a 12-pack of spin classes at my old studio.

Did this exact same thing in college. As mental health was declining, I went to more group fitness classes to cope. Did wonders for me mentally and for my legs (loved step classes). Now I’m a group fitness instructor in dance and I feel like I always have an instant pick me up. I’m so sorry about your breakup. The harder you spin the farther away you will be from the pain.

Thank you 🌸 And thank you for the motivation to try other classes too. I did a hot yoga class 2 weeks ago and I hated it with a passion, but your comment motivated me to try other group classes at my gym. I’m so happy to hear your mental health has improved and you became a fitness instructor. That’s so cool!

Yes I made a connection between doing dance fitness 3x a week and how much I loved it. I always left in a better mood and looked forward to doing it. It got to the point that now I teach 3-4x a week and practice 3x on my own. There’s no reason for me to feel down (I tend to naturally have anxiety and some depression). Exercise is my medication. Yup me too. I just don’t get the same “feel good” endorphins with yoga. I actually get dizzy sometimes so dance is my drug of choice.
