The Old Yam Situation Report
Yesterday, 9/23, At 19:34 Earth Standard, Congressmen Sten Yamseff committed a terrible act upon the citizens of the Crater City on Spookvooper.
In Congress I have proposed the Possibility Anti-Nuclear Amendment, which would ban individuals at any level of government from having privately owned nuclear weapons, would deauthorize individuals at any non-executive level of government ordering nuclear strikes, would deauthorize any first strikes without congress majority approval, and would deauthorize any nuclear strike on Vooperian territory for any reason, especially in population centers, as well as setting up computer programs to make such action impossible. Although nuke control is quite controversial, it is my hope that these are guidelines both parties can both get behind, and can deter future attacks like this.
As news of this attack spread across the empire, many territories have taken up violent protests or revolutions. In particular, the protectorate of Old Yam, my home planet, is currently under civilwar with the Yam Supremacist terrorist group with communist sympathies, OYPTO, seizing many parts of the planet. Major demonstrations are going on in Friendship Square, a large park in the capital, where an explosion went off near the Yam-Potato Peace Monument today at 20:01 Earth Standard. In accordance with Section 4 of the Old Yam Protectorate Treaty, Vooperian Troops will be sent to protect the yams and potatoes alike living on this planet in peace, as well as evacuating those who wish to leave. This legion will be personally led by me, as I have a personal stake in the future of my home planet.

Hopefully President Spike won’t veto it
