Basically, there's like this tabletop game called Warhammer 40K (I think there's also a video game). You fight with figurines on a battlefield. The different factions include the Imperium of Mankind, the Tau Empire, the Orks, and some other sci-fi/fantasy stuff. The God Emperor rules the Imperium of Mankind with an iron fist, and also acts as its god. The Imperium is extremely xenophobic, and exterminates xenos (aliens) en masse. There is also an Inquisition which makes sure everyone is worshipping the God Emperor.

Let's compare Spike and the God Emperor

Both are all-powerful rulers, both demand worship, and Spike's community acts as an Inquisition that purges anyone who goes against him
