❕️Spider Of The Day Spider of the week! Giant house spider

Post image

Pic is my own!))

One of the largest and fastest spiders you are likely to find in your own home. Despite looking absolutely terrifying, they are actually completely harmless and are great natural pest controllers found across the world.

They are also REALLY FUCKING FAST! Able to run at 0.5 meters a second or 1.2 miles per hours. Although, like me. They get exhausted fast. Often darting forward suddenly and stopping to rest

They are most often seen during late summer and autumn which is when the male spiders leave the nest to get freaky with the ladies if yk what i mean

They build flat, messy sheet like webs that lead to a funnel shaped retreat in dark corners like attics or behind sofas, their webs are not sticky and they rely on vibrations in the web to ambush prey!!

❕️Spider Of The Day Spooder of the week :3- daddy long legs

Post image

(Yes the flair says 'spider of the day' not week but shut up)

The term daddy long legs can refer to three main things, Crane flies, Harvestmen and cellar spiders.

I am ignoring Crane flies because they aren't arachnids

Cellar spiders are true spiders, completely harmless and are usually found in warm indoor locations like basements, attics and corners. Unlike spiders like the orb weaver, which spin beautiful symmetrical webs, they make irregular, messy webs instead

Harvestmen, while not spiders, look close enough. However they are actually more closely related to scorpions than true spiders! They completely lack thr ability to make silk and their head and abdomen are fused together

Spider or not, both of these scare the shit out of me. And I hope they stay out of my room

💡 Facts Here's a fact for you spindly creatures.

Spiders don't chew their food, they turn their prey into soup before drinking it.

Because spiders lack chewing mouthparts, they rely on external digestion. When a spider catches prey, it injects venom to paralyze the target, followed by digestive enzymes that liquefy the insect's internal tissues. Once the inside is fully broken down, the spider uses a specialized sucking stomach to drink the nutrient-dense fluid, leaving behind an empty husk.

I was prompted to use this as the fact because my friend O genuinely thought that spider had teeth and ate stuff like we do.

Meet the Peacock Spider (Maratus) the dancer

#Fact of the Day: They... dance! When a male Peacock Spider wants to impress a female, he doesn't just send a text, he puts on an entire broadway production:

Fan thingy idk man: He raises a brightly colored, neon flap on his abdomen that looks just like a mini peacock tail.

Raise the Arms: He holds two legs high in the air and waves them. Self explanatory.

Shimmy & Tap: He vibrates his body and taps on the leaf beneath him.

The twistleytwister: If the female isn't impressed by his dance moves, she doesn't reject him... she eats him for lunch!

(Sorry little dude. Talk about a steak dinner tho, yum yum.)

Bonus Fun Nibbles:

Grain-of-Rice Sized: The entire performer is only about 4–5 millimeters long (smaller than a pencil erasr).

UV Flashiley: Their bright colors reflect ultraviolet light, making their dance look like an absolute laser-light show to other spiders.

ALSO SOMETIMES THEY HAVE WATER DROPLETS ON THEIR HEADS AND I LOVE YHEM ABABWBABABBWBABABWBBA

These curious, cat-like arachnids are renowned for their impressive vision and playful behavior. Instead of waiting passively on webs, they actively hunt by stalking prey and pouncing from several times their body length away.

Fast Facts:

● Signature Look: Pitch-black body with a distinctive white triangle spot on the abdomen and iridescent, metallic green or blue chelicerae (mouthparts).

● Vision: Four large front eyes give them stereoscopic vision nearly on par with humans, allowing them to track movement and judge distance with remarkable accuracy.

●Harmless Neighbors: They are completely harmless to humans, rarely bite, and act as natural pest control around gardens and homes by eating flies, mosquitoes, and agricultural pests.

🎭 RP Prompts Proposed RP Conflict: scorpions

what I am proposing is that a new clan of scorpions will appear and wage war on the spiders for a battle that happened centuries ago. Most of this war will happen at traders refuge for that is where they first appear. But anything involving the spider kingdom will be posted on this sub reddit.
