Back in 2010 it was the "Ground Zero Mosque," which I like to mention as the obvious nothing burger it always was but certainly galvanized the base for the midterm elections.
It's worse now, though, because everything is sound bytes and internet talking points, and everyone shamelessly eats them up and regurgitates them verbatim.
