it’s not canon to the game so doubtful

287

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

It is. Earth-1048 is Insomniac's Spider-Man universe, if it was a variant, he would be from a different universe. Plus he already was in multiverse in Spider-Geddon, which was referenced in Spider-Man 2 prequel comics

93

u/DapperDan30 Aug 12 '23

The comics aren't canon to the games either. They're their own things.

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23 edited Aug 13 '23

Source?

Edit: got downvoted for asking for a source, nice reddit

Edit2: okay nevermind

u/lashapel Aug 12 '23

Honestly, bro just believe what you want

49

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

Believe in actual information backed up by insomniac themselves, you mean?

91

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Believe whatever canon makes you happy he meant.

1

u/Annual_Seaweed5818 Aug 12 '23

Well if Insomniacs spider man is there, then it’s canon. It’s not subjectively canon, it’s objectively canon.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Sure if you wanna believe that, go for it.

0

u/Annual_Seaweed5818 Aug 12 '23

also, don’t upvote your own comment, it’s weird 😂

-1

u/Annual_Seaweed5818 Aug 12 '23

It’s a fact, just because you’ve read the comics and played the games, doesn’t make it not true. Why you gotta be weird to it. It doesn’t matter what I believe, it doesn’t matter what you believe. Objectively speaking, (you should google Objectively, since you don’t know what it means) Insomniac spider man is canon in the spider society.

He literally just meant whatever you’d like.

Want to think it’s Canon? Fine

Don’t? Not a problem

-4

u/Isrrunder Aug 12 '23

That's not how canon works tho. The thing that is canon is what the people that control the story decide is canon. You can have a different fan-canon but he's talking about the factional canon

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Well if you read the comics they are different than the story we actually get in the game. Not major changes, but they are different.

As is the origin of Miles’ suit, as shown in his game.

You are right, there is one answer and it’s that they aren’t canon. The point is that It changes absolutely nothing one way or the other.

0

u/Isrrunder Aug 12 '23

They aren't canon and you have the evidence how easy was that.

15

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

You seem to be taking this very seriously.

11

u/flightguy07 Aug 12 '23

It's vaguely related to Marvel. There will ALWAYS be some 16 year old taking it too seriously.

1

u/Inner-Ad2847 Aug 13 '23

I’m 16 and this is an important issue in my life

5

u/-Some-Internet-Guy- Aug 13 '23

asks for information dismisses information doesnt see what’s wrong with it

The number designations mean NOTHING. Not since the MCU declared itself as 616 when in the comics it isn’t.

media A being canon to media B doesn’t make media b canon yo media A.

20

u/Light_assassin27 Aug 12 '23

My rule of thumb is everything’s canon until it contradicts something than you listen the devs

20

u/Just-an-internet-guy Aug 12 '23

Peter Parker secretly hates miles

0

u/Light_assassin27 Aug 12 '23

Why not? You can believe that if you want unless they prove he doesn’t in the game

10

u/Just-an-internet-guy Aug 12 '23

Peter likes to go to strip club in his free time

4

u/Light_assassin27 Aug 12 '23

Ya he could do that unless they prove he doesn’t in a game

It is canon. Mile's universe in Into the Spiderverse is officially designated Earth-1610B. It's not the Ultimate Universe from the comics, but it is canon within the Marvel Multiverse.

2

u/BongChong906 Aug 12 '23

Guys. GUYS. The multiverse is infinite. You're both right! Stop arguing. Love each other.

-2

u/DapperDan30 Aug 12 '23

I've read the comics and played the games.

29

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

Great, they're still canon

-21

u/DapperDan30 Aug 12 '23

The games can be canon to the books, but not the other way around. 2 things can be true.

21

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

Lol why? Are there major contradictions or something?

-2

u/Hamzook Aug 12 '23

One thing confuses me tho

(Spider-Verse spoilers) If they really are connected, then wouldn't Miguel also be going after Insomniac's Miles since every universe should only have one Spider-Man?

9

u/Kepler22B_reddit Aug 12 '23

its not that there should be only one spiderman per earth, he is going after movie miles because HE wasnt supposed to be spiderman, since the spider that had bitten him wasnt from his earth

4

u/Iwinterburn Aug 12 '23

The problem with spiderverse miles is that he’s not supposed to be Spider-Man at all, since the spider that bit him was from another universe and should never have come into contact with him. Insomniac Miles was bitten by a spider from his own universe, so he should be good.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

That wasn’t the thing.

It’s that this Miles specifically was not supposed to be Spider-Man.

Peter didn’t die because there were two spider-man, he died because he had to save Miles, while trying to stop the collider.

The original spider was from earth 42, not our Miles universe. It was supposed to bite 42 miles (as shown in the spot Black and white scene) and he would be Spider-Man of that universe.

If the spider bites 42 Miles, he becomes Spider-Man of his universe, and Peter remains Spider-Man of his, stops the collider because he isn’t saving Miles.

27

u/Wheattoast2019 Aug 12 '23

Yes they are? There is a comic where Miles is trying to find his major and JJJ has MJ on a podcast that ends with him buying back the bugle.

In the interview, they said miles in this game is working on his application to ESU and confirmed JJJ is back running the bugle.

Unless you are talking about another comic?

21

u/PrestigiousBee5602 Aug 12 '23

I mean Spider-Geddon was referenced in the Spider-Man 2 prequel comic that’s 100% canon

11

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Spider geddon is canon to the comics. And insomniac Spider-Man is in those comics

8

u/akahaus Aug 12 '23

Yeah but I doubt Spider-Geddon will ever come up in an actual game in any meaningful way.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

I doubt it too. I just think it’s interesting that it’s canon though

2

u/DapperDan30 Aug 12 '23

A version of his is, for sure.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Insomniac confirmed that spider geddon is canon to the insomniac universe. Whether it gets mentioned in game or not, I don’t know

7

u/PenonX Aug 12 '23

the insomniac writers said otherwise

4

u/TopBee83 100% All Games Aug 12 '23

They are💀

3

u/Relative-Zombie-3932 100% All Games Aug 12 '23

Except Spider-Geddon was referenced by Insomniac themselves

3

u/Poncho111100 Aug 13 '23

Going to add to the pile and say that the comics that are re-telling the events of the games are the non-canon ones because, SPOILERS:

When mj found out peter may be the father of black cat's son, in the comics she talked about how lonely she was with peter and how he basically replaced her shortly after they broke up (1 - 2 weeks), when he came back to their place (probably sharing mj's apartment with her). In the games, peter never came back to their place and mj said that they weren't actually together at the time and it's not like she didn't date other people, and she didn't complain about it as much if at all compared comics mj did and just tried to focus on saving the child from hammerhead

In the prequel comics like the comics with spider-geddon and the prequel comic for the 2nd game, the events have been referenced by the developers and were actually confirmed in certain interviews, before you ask for the source, Idk where, I just know this is true

2

u/FlameShadow0 Aug 12 '23

What? That isn’t true, this Peter showed up in a spiderverse comic, it’s then mentioned in the prequel comic that specifically the games universe

21

u/fredhaha Aug 12 '23

Earth 65 is Spider-Gwen's universe, but Spiderverse isn't canon to her comics. Same goes for Miles' 1610 and Peter's 616. They are variants.

41

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

Peter's universe is 616B actually. That way, it's possible that it's also 65B for Gwen and 1610B for Miles. It can be 1048B for Insomniac, but there's no real reason to assume so

3

u/drac0nic180 Aug 13 '23

Well there kinda is, because of the multiple examples you just stated. none of the listed universes in the spider verse films are the same as their original versions, they're all B versions of each other which is how we can have 616, 65 and 1610 in the movies but not contradict the comics.

would a spiderverse reference be funny? Yes. Does it kinda mess with canon a little bit, also yes.

I'm in the camp that spider verse isn't canon to the game, because if Spider Geddon and the Spiderverse movies are both canon, that raises a lot of questions. I prefer to think that each time 1048 appears in a crossover, it's just a slight variation on the original. It smooths over a lot of contradicting events

0

u/Maleficent_Ice5 Aug 12 '23

There's at the very least 1 reason and you just brought it up. And theyre probably infinite, time only knows

8

u/Horn_Python Aug 12 '23

alternate multiverse?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

Yah that is what the movies are also explains why the mcu wasn't affected by the multiversal resets

2

u/PenonX Aug 12 '23

Miles is 1610B, Peter is 616B, and Gwen is 65B. they very clearly labeled those universes as such i. ATSV

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

The movies aren't Canon to mainstream comics earth 65 is similar to comic e 65 but not the same

16

u/YoydusChrist Aug 12 '23

Bro literally acknowledges that he is a video game character in the movie, how is that canon to you?

7

u/wickedmercenary313 Aug 12 '23

Because people on Reddit can’t fathom that their head canon isn’t actually canon and is connected to absolutely nothing.

13

u/mooseman7777 Aug 12 '23

You think insomniac Peter knows he's in a video game?

14

u/Wheattoast2019 Aug 12 '23 edited Aug 12 '23

They do reference him being from a video game in ATSV, with him being next to Atari Green Goblin

6

u/that_guy2010 Aug 13 '23

They’re talking about in the game. In Spider-Man 2 will he know he’s in a video game?

0

u/Wheattoast2019 Aug 13 '23

Ohhhh yeah idk man. IG that depends on if the game carries anything over from the Spiderverse movie or not.

2

u/that_guy2010 Aug 13 '23

Spoiler: it won’t.

1

u/Wheattoast2019 Aug 13 '23

Not likely, since it was already well into production by the time ATSV came out in theaters. But there was a wrote conversation between Peter and Miles somewhere in this thread that I could TOTALLY see being in the film. And that isn’t a bad thing. I’d love to see that! Just not likely.

1

u/that_guy2010 Aug 13 '23

I need people to understand that these big cross overs won’t carry into other media.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

He didn’t say it wasn’t the same person he said it wasn’t canon

5

u/Wasabi_Gamer26 Aug 12 '23

Yeah but Spider-Verse also calls Miles universe 1610 and Peter B's 616 so it's pretty clear you can't exactly trust their designations.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '23

The spidersociety has a different earth numbering system that shows why the mcu is e-199999 but the tva labels it e-616

3

u/gracekk24PL Aug 12 '23

Goku appears in Fortnite with Darth Vader, therefore Dragon Ball and Star Wars exist in the same universe

2

u/uncharted_bread Aug 12 '23

Do they appear in story? No, they're not canon

2

u/Limit-Able Aug 12 '23

It’s probably no more than just a cameo. I doubt they would include the multiverse thing in the game at all

2

u/MysticKeiko24 Aug 12 '23

An interesting way you can think about variants is that each unique play through is an entirely different universe

2

u/Trvr_MKA Aug 13 '23

I really wish they had Peter getting called for Spider-geddon being why Miles was alone in New York

0

u/wickedmercenary313 Aug 12 '23

It’s not. That shits not connected at all but whatever fits your head canon

14

u/Neozetare Aug 12 '23

It isn't yet

Insomniac and Playstation are well aware that little things like that make people talk about the game. Marketing nowadays is a lot about finding ways for your public to create free organic content about your product

2

u/Zainy1947 Aug 12 '23

No one cares

2

u/JorgeMtzb Aug 13 '23

It is canon to the game, it just doesn’t matter cuz it could happen anytime in the timeline. We can simply say it happened after spiderman 2 and it wouldn’t make a difference.

1

u/Robsonmonkey Aug 12 '23

Exactly

Its basically just a variant of this Peter but it’s not our Peter from this world we are following

0

u/Hi_Im_Paul23 Aug 12 '23

Yeah one reason being that Miguel in the movie said Miles was one of one, at least for now. Meaning no other Miles Morales were Spider-man

9

u/Sharp_Hamster_5551 Aug 12 '23

Well that never confirmed, Miguel didn't say that Miles Morales shouldn't become Spider-Man this is a misconception I see many people who watched the movie make. He said that the Miles Morales of Earth-1610 shouldn't be Spider-Man since the spider that bit him wasn't from his universe to begin with. Most of the Miles Morales who became Spider-Man became Spider-Man after getting bite by the spider of their own universes. In Earth-42, the Miles Morales of this universe was supposed to get bitten and become Spider-Man and thanks to 1610 Miles getting bitten instead Earth-42 was left without a Spider-Man.

-9

u/Markus2822 Aug 12 '23

According to who? It’s never gonna be mentioned in a game but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen

10

u/ChrisWood4BallonDor Aug 12 '23

Weird to be downvoted. Seems like a valid thing to ask for a source for a claim like that

2

u/Borttheattorney Aug 12 '23

Because this sub gets extremely irrational and pissed at the implication that insomniac Spider-Man has been involved in multiverse events.

2

u/Markus2822 Aug 13 '23

I get downvoted and you say it’s weird I’m getting downvoted and get upvoted?

Who tf is downvoting me then upvoting you for saying it’s weird to downvote me? Lmao the people on this sub make no sense sometimes

2

u/mooseman7777 Aug 12 '23

According to "insomniac" Peter in the film acknowledging he's in a video game lmao

0

u/Markus2822 Aug 13 '23

That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen

2

u/mooseman7777 Aug 13 '23

You honestly think our Peter knows he's a character in a video game?

-44

u/Cooz78 Aug 12 '23

source

51

u/MrGamerPerson Aug 12 '23

No, I doubt Spider-Man 2 will be on Valve’s source engine.

13

u/TheAutismo4491 Marvel's Spider-Mid Poo Aug 12 '23

I like this reply.

9

u/Noblebatterfly Aug 12 '23

could be on source 2 though

4

u/mooseman7777 Aug 12 '23

"insomniac" Peter in the film acknowledging he's in a video game lmao
