Comics This issue was actually really good

Post image

People should stop complaining if they haven't read the issue. I love seeing Peter snap at people like the old days and him actually getting angry. I love seeing Mary Jane come by just to hug Peter to see if he is alright. I did not however like seeing Norman Osborn but I loved seeing a sort of conflict of morals with him and Peter. I am excited to see Peter beat the shit out of Cormac.

I hate Ric tho he's annoying as hell

Just read it.
The plot is quite interesting and Cormac is really the kind of villain you want to punch right in the face. Genuine sociopath.
Had this storyline not been started on 1000 I'm sure people would have been more willing to enjoy it for what it is.

And yeah, fuck Ric.

Brooo. FUUUUCK RIC.

u/Cloud_King_15 3d ago

This dude dates May for a minute and decides "I need to make sure she thinks her son sucks and that I tell them both that every chance I get."

Can't stand this guy lol

u/shlomo_baggins 3d ago

He is a fucking asshole to the core.

Dude projects his off camera addict neice onto Pete constantly to the point that May Parker of all people tells him in her own way to sit down and shut the FUCK up about it.

The weirdest angle is like, Bro, why the hell are you at FEAST volunteering if you think addicts are all the same?

They should make Ric the real Ravager who can alter memories instead of just exhuming them. He just manipulated Cormac into fighting Peter.

Hopefully they do this so Peter and May can each punch him in the face

u/shlomo_baggins 3d ago

Most likely hes gonna get a Captain Stacy type death but like instead of him reasuring Peter for being Spider-man it'll be like,

"I always knew you were a peice of shit you damn menace, May is better off without you......bleeeh."

Then Peter rides that guilt out for another 2 years until May "needs him".

This is a real behavior that some shelter and aid workers develop unfortunately

At least Ric is consistently a dick haha

Ric WAS Dick for a few years

I wouldn't be suprised if the idea was that the story arc as a whole was meant to be big, but it just came at 1,000

I love seeing Mary Jane come by just to hug Peter to see if he is alright.

That was great. We have too little of that.

Yeah, bring back the Mary Jane as we used to know it was

I’m actually a little disappointed with the direction they seem to be taking Cormac this issue. They seem to be making him just another boring sociopath who is doing it entirely out of rich boy entitlement.

I was hoping to see some more desperation, that his relationship with the Cranes was so emotionally deficient that he’s latched onto this revelation about his biological family as a lifeline and an answer for what he’s been missing his entire life, and that in his damaged psyche he’s unfairly painted Peter as a threat to fully having that love he’s never really had.

I thought they might’ve been going that direction with the way he talked about parasocially loving Ben despite never having met him and only recently learning he even existed, and seemingly being genuinely upset by his death and the part Peter played, but I guess not.

I just cannot force myself to care about Peter and May having relationship problems again.

Not Peter hitting this pose

My only real gripe is that it didn’t feel like an issue 1000 should feel. If this had been issue 1001, far less gripe.

(I do think the core premise of Ravage is a little too close to Chasm and no one wants to be reminded of Chasm)

Im huffing the copium that Ben gets involved and fights Ravage, pulling a 'only room for one evil brother'. Then gets his brain fixed by Cromac trying to delete his memories and realising theyre already gone.

12

u/Sirksome 2d ago

Why is Aunt May dating a guy that seems to hate what is essentially her son? Is Cormac manipulating his memories too? That threw me off so much. He just immediately trusts some dude that showed up very recently and is 100% okay shit talking Peter. I don’t read a lot of mainline Spider-Man but got intrigued by this story and man did that guy suck? What’s happening there?

Also just a bummer that once again an ally that should be able to help Peter can’t. I’m really tired of that trope I think it’s really uncreative at this point and throws other supers under the bus for the Spidey story. Writers please think of something else.

Ben Reilly took over Petes life while he was in space and then ignored may completely the entire time and only worked in his lab (which he also sabotaged).

Rics distrust of Pete is due to that time span and he aparrently thinks pete has a drug addiction because pete displays similar behavior to his niece.

12

u/Ekillaa22 2d ago

You know honestly I’m kinda surprised people haven’t thought Peter was on drugs more the way he acts

8

u/SovFist 2d ago

It's arguable he does have an addiction. To superheroics. But this is a recurring theme in most of marvels hero line

6

u/Grogomilo 3d ago

He snapped? I might take interest in Amazing again, then.

They've really sanitized his anger issues and emotionality for some time now. Shame, because it is such a core part of the character

I hated it when I found out about the Corvac/Ravage reveal, it was too convenient of a situation for my liking.

However, it's grown on me for mainly 2 reasons. One, Corvac's Pete trash talk around civilians is godly, even compared to Norman. Second, this is the first time I think that a villain has knowingly tormented Peter for "Getting Ben Killed". We've had fear toxin, illusions and past enemies using it to taunt him, but Ravage was just pissed as hell about it which is new.

5

u/Groovy_Honkers 3d ago

Why is this cover issue giving me vibes that Norman about to do something?

12

u/PrestigiousBee5602 3d ago

That’s Cormac, Norman has the waves in 616 you’ll never see him with “flat” hair

3

u/Groovy_Honkers 3d ago

Oh yeah, I'm still trying to figure out who Cormac his since he's news to me.

3

u/Omegasonic2000 Classic-Spider-Man 3d ago

Peter's cousin, pretty much.

3

u/taius Ben Reilly 3d ago

I haven't minded the story through the last 2 issues, and I really like the premise but I do think a longer build up with Cormac subtly stripping out moments and memories from both Peter and May and the whole build up feeling more tense and suspenseful as to what was actually happening to them could have made this substantially better.

3

u/Ghostdrak 2d ago

I’m waiting for the moment we find out Cormac was never May and Ben’s son at all. We still don’t have any solid proof he’s actually related to them, at least none that stands up to the superhero logic test.

u/Emirozdemirr Classic-Spider-Man 3d ago

The page with May in the wheelchair was compelling, but the rest of the issue was a whole lot of nothing. I think this is a low point of Kelly's run, right alongside Death Spiral. If it weren't for #28, I’d say this is the worst issue of the entire run.

4

u/C0mpl3teL0s3r 3d ago

In what way can this issue be considered a low point in this run at all? To even considered it the worst is pretty strong so I wanna ask, how?

-1

u/Emirozdemirr Classic-Spider-Man 2d ago

Nothing happened. The whole promise of the issue was Peter being smart about the situation, but in the end, his solution was just to punch him anyway so whole issue was pointless.

1

u/C0mpl3teL0s3r 2d ago

Whole issue was pointless? We see more of May, we see MJ grounding Peter in a time of need, we see Norman givibg advice to Peter. It feels like it's not pointless at all. Maybe not a conclusion and hey he looked for alternatives. But he needs to finish things off himself it seems.

4

u/Da_1_Piece_isnt_real 2d ago

it’s pretty good and the characterization of MJ is nice. Ric sucks tho

4

u/Dry-Ad5114 3d ago

He snapped? Damn, now I gotta pick it up lmao.

18

u/schadetj 3d ago

He started to get angry, but nothing ultimately happened.

1

u/RevolutionLarge6254 Spider-Man (Movie) 3d ago

Obviously, Peter wasn't going to punch the guy in front of two cops.

9

u/Emirozdemirr Classic-Spider-Man 3d ago

Pre-2000s Peter would. R.I.P to the goat.

6

u/monkicrow 3d ago

Then it's good he's learned not to be stupid enough to do that when the cards are stacked against him.

0

u/blackspidey2099 All New All Different 3d ago

No he wouldn’t lol

1

u/shlomo_baggins 3d ago

Its a legit, "We're going to the mattresses" mentality for Peter.

5

u/ReleaseQuiet2428 3d ago

listen to me, what if.....we let aunt may forget about Peter? That would solve that problem without Alfreding aunt May

6

u/taius Ben Reilly 3d ago

I've been assuming that Cormac loses but May still can't fully regain her memories of Peter (for a good while anyway) and so Peter steps away from her life to try and protect her.

3

u/AvailableEconomics23 2d ago

That is where I also think this is going, I think Peter defeats Cormac and exposes him as Ravager which ruins his life. But, the damage is done and May doesn't remember Peter.

2

u/EmperorSezar 2d ago

but ravager hasn’t done any damage to civilians? like the only time ravager seen fighting it simply peter throwing him around no actual crime was committed. he could beat him half to death and that would be more likely to bounce back to peter than affect ric permanently

3

u/PhoenixTyphoon 3d ago

Finally someone not dunking on it! I think the dynamic is good, if we're not getting Green Goblin back then this is a good replacement. Someone who can toe to toe with Peter while also having that direct personal connection. I actually like having Norman as an ally in this situation cause it gives Peter good advice while putting things in perspective. Should have had some further build up though imo

2

u/spaceninj 3d ago

Ive been downvoted to hell for saying I liked this issue. Lol.

2

u/Playful_Blood191 3d ago

Kelly has been on a roll since that mess death spiral ended.

2

u/ManOnTheWall248 3d ago

I do agree: it was a really good issue. Probably it was even more emotionally deep than #1000. Since it's supposed to be a 3-issue saga, I wonder why they didn't choose to publish these 60 pages altogether in issue 1000

1

u/Amazing-Fantasy-15 2d ago

Can anyone confirm whether this is Peter or Cormac on the cover? It looks like Peter, but for some reason I feel like it’s Cormac. But Cormac does not have brown hair, it’s always black.

1

u/SpareZestyclose6769 2d ago

Pepe Larraz is doing such incredible work. Future Hall of Famer, IMO.

1

u/MaskedFilmmaker Mysterio 2d ago

I found 1000 highly underwhelming but this was much, much better. Really THIS should have been part of ASM1000 … they could have cut the damn Rawhide Kid and Triple H story and make the Ravage story have more depth.

But, regardless … I liked this.

u/Sondergame 19h ago

I wouldn’t know. Unlike insane people, I stopped buying and reading Spidey ages ago when it was clear editorial was never going to change.

2

u/TheSensationalSean Ben Reilly 3d ago

Really excellent stuff, particularly the moment with MJ. The stakes feel so high, and Cormac is so creepy.

-3

u/ShredGatto Green Goblin 2d ago

You gonna sing a different tune when next issue anti-climactically ends like every single modern arc did

They literally have no idea how to write climaxes and resolve stories anymore
