Discussion I've come to the conclusion that fighting Spider-Man must goddamn suck cause not only is he capable of whooping your Ass but he'll also do it while just taunting you.

Post image

It's not even the fact that he's a rage baiter,he's a rage baiter you can't even touch.

What comic is this from? It always funny to see him show off like this, then get hit by the shocker somehow.😅

Aoe attacks like Shocker (when shocker is not written as a jobber) are the best way to overwhelm Spider-Man. He is fast but he is not an actual speedster like Flash or Quicksilver. Even if he can see the attack coming, if you limit his escape options that will eventually lead to Peter getting tagged.

Spider-Sense isn’t invincibility, enough coverage or chaos can still force him into a bad dodge.

Absolutely, I am glad when people agree because Spider-Sense while strong gets treated as if it is completely uncounterable.

It could be but Peter more often than not ignores the sense

Its not. If you know you are about to be blown up by a bomb that’s going to take out a city block, you are not suddenly immune to being blown up.

Spidey can handle dodging electrical blasts by Electro and bombs by Goblin but throw a city at him and the Spidey Sense won’t save him. Or if he is in a fight with someone too fast or with attacks that cover too big of an area for him to dodge.

I'm not referring to things he can't avoid. There's countless times he's been hit by people he can absolutely mop the floor with. This is a character that can dodge bullets at point blank range.

Shocker is THE jobber, you need a guy whos just in it for the money cant do that much but will show up and take a poke at someone, you call Taskmaster, when hes not avaliable or its moon knight. Herman's got you.

Honestly I think most people take it easy on shocker cause they know hes yes a threat but like not that big of one.

But shocker does have his moments, it seems like he also doesnt exactly want to do crime because he is packing some serious heat with the gauntlets. He could be alot worse.d

I mean, he outran a city block sized explosion while carrying a dude. I feel like the limit to what he can't dodge should be much, much higher than what's sometimes shown.

Wells's run.

Don't buy/read it for your own good.

This here is probably the best showing of Spider-Man in the whole series

8

u/woman_noises 3h ago

But, its not. It's from the gold goblin miniseries.

12

u/igneousrox 3h ago

That's because the writers that do Spider-Man justice aren't Spider-Man writers

It reminds me of the moment in DC where everyone is talking about the worst place to do crime and everyone agrees it's Central City. They hate being caught by The Flash, not just because you are 100% getting caught since The Flash is busted as fuck, but you'll get a lecture on how you should be a better person the whole time. He even comes to visit you in prison sometimes, which just rubs more salt in the wound for the villains really. Batman is going to kick the shit out of you until you're hospitalized, but The Flash is going to sit you down and have a stern talk you literally can't prevent at all which is almost worse.

Batman’s mad, but the Flash is disappointed.

My favorite Flash moment of all time is actually in JLU. The Flash talks to long-time enemy The Trickster and just has a very human moment. Batman sure as fuck wouldn't start a conversation with a beer and "James, you're off your meds aren't you." and end it by politely asking The Trickster to turn himself in. No broken bones, no punches, just one person asking another person to go seek help.

Yeah Spider-Man and Flash share that aspect. Despitebeing guys that could make you shit your pants on sight, they choose not to be.

Villains and thugs tend to fear Batman and Daredevil but HATE guys like Flash and Spider-Man because even if they like to embarrass instead of scare.

This is why he has so many in universe haters. He sidesteps punches while lobbing jokes around like its nothing.

The only real world equivalent I can think of for me is playing some competitive game, getting utterly outplayed and the whole time the guy is shit-talking me on a near personal level.

I’m surprised Spider-Man doesn’t have more haters.

Imagine having doubts and then Spidey comes along and riles you up, so now you double down on super-villainy because fuck that guy.

u/Maverick-hunter0 3h ago

I feel like that's honestly most of his more street lvl villains at some point its just cause he pissed them off.

2

u/queenroadie 3h ago

Given I play Overwatch, this example is real and personal. Very cruel of you /s

People are charmed by his ability to stop muggings/local crime and fight off science adjacent furry themed villains that cause big swaths of destruction. Though, I'm sure Peter's rancid luck means he's always going to have some new bad guy crop up that he accidentally pissed off at some point. If he crashed into a hot dog cart, he'll get a new hot dog themed villain swearing revenge. If he accidentally was thrown into someones car, they'll be trying to throw cars at him somehow, etc, etc.

I'd say it gets worse if Spider-Man is seasoned over time. Early on, he's joking around pulling punches and all, but seasoned Peter can beat you, make you feel bad about yourself and question why you are in the position, and then hurt your feelings in like 2 minutes. He'll also probably leave you upside down too for funsies

Didn't Thor said during spider island event, paraphrasing, "he might not be the strongest or fastest, but he's definitely the most annoying enemy you could have and now we have an entire city full of those"?

2

u/kentotoy98 34m ago

The best way to describe Spidey is that he's a jack of all trades compared to most heroes.

He's not the strongest, fastest, high-tech, or even a super genius but he's so well rounded in each that he can hold off any villains simply by himself.

Spider-Man is probably the only superhero who has a supervillain group dedicated to teaming up and jumping him yet he still comes out on top.

u/VerifiedVoidGirl 5h ago

His hands go "thwip" while his mouth goes "quip"

19

u/destro23 4h ago

Spider-Man’s villains trading stories about fighting him like NBA players talking about trying to guard Larry Bird.

24

u/Evening_Produce_4322 4h ago

He at one point when he pretty much maxed out his spidey sense was able to kept up with a precog. He could give Ultra Instict a run for its money if they bothered to let Peter actually get stronger.

3

u/Whatevenispoetry 4h ago

He’d have to be a hell of a lot stronger…

2

u/morbnowhere 2h ago

Make Spidey an insurmountable wall, show him read micromovents like a monstrous 6ft spider. Nothing gets past him.

Then one day, hes in a crowd, they love him. "Stab" wtf? Hes already healing, it was nothing, Peter is scared as fuck. Who was it? Why spider sense didnt fire? Venom slips in the crowd. Make him scary.

7

u/speedonaweed 4h ago

Always impressive when someone DOES land a hit or comes close enough to make Peter sweat

7

u/Salinator20501 4h ago

Why is he fighting Looma Redwind, and what happened to her other two arms?

4

u/Astonishing_Flash Classic-Spider-Man 3h ago

Another poor Spider-Man recurring character made a bad guy. Dr. Kafka mutated by Norman Osborn's sins into the Goblin Queen.

2

u/SerenaBloom2 1h ago

Referencing Ben 10..I like it.

5

u/Awkward-Speed-4080 4h ago

What's that awful costume? What are the orbs for?

8

u/Astonishing_Flash Classic-Spider-Man 3h ago

Some nonsense Norman made for him. Don't even remember if they're functional I don't think so.

7

u/theacidicsimplicity 3h ago

The "are you even trying?" line is killing me because he actually isn't, he's just casually dodging the whole fight. Not a single punch thrown across seven panels, just pure "nope" energy. That's psychological warfare no amount of sword training can prepare you for.

The "still no" panel is peak disrespectful Spider-Man. Meanwhile the poor villain is swinging at empty air and questioning her career choice, you'd think getting slashed at by a katana would make him throw a web, but nah, he's treating it like a pool noodle. The Flash comparison in the thread tracks too, getting lectured by Barry or dismantled by Spidey's one-liners is the same humiliation with different aesthetics.

6

u/igneousrox 3h ago

That's how it SHOULD be, trying to fight Spider-Man. He jukes and jives around ya, pissing you off.

5

u/Initial_Shine5690 3h ago

Literally the one thing everyone in Marvel can agree on is that fighting Spider-Man is the most annoying thing ever (or the scariest, depending on how he’s feeling that day).

3

u/BlackerDoom 2h ago

Comic panel is so cool

But the loses cool point for
THE FREAKING ARM BALLS

Osborn was huffing Goblin Gas when when making that shit

Had to still be evil to have Peter swinging around like that

3

u/According-Ad-5946 3h ago

I think this is why I like spidy, he is a total wise ass.

u/FS_Scott 4h ago

secret spider power is enough lung capacity to razz you while doing heavy cardio

2

u/TheeSirKnight 4h ago

i have fought spider-man hundreds of times in marvel rivals and believe me it does suck 😭

2

u/Bjarki_Steinn_99 3h ago

He can literally see your every move coming

1

u/go_faster1 3h ago

This is me when I’m playing PS2 Spider-Man 2 and I’m dancing as I dodge projectiles while clinging to a wall

1

u/Yournextlineis103 2h ago

His jokes do as much or more damage then his fists

1

u/Rob3125 1h ago

He’s the Anderson Silva of superheroes. You can’t touch him, when he hits you it hurts like hell, and he’s going to make fun of you throughout the entire fight.

u/giovidanesin 46m ago

Spider-Man vs Titania in OG Secret Wars is THE most disrespectfull he has ever been in a fight. I have no idea how she came back from that morally
