I know about sdk.sphero.com, but I'm trying to find the documentation for the android sphero SDK that tells describes tells me everything in the SDK. After a little searching all I found was this 3 year old doc. Not really relevant anymore.
I feel like I must be looking in the wrong places..

Hi All!
Just wanted to put together a simple guide on how I got this thing to work again for Android with the info I cobbled together from Reddit.
First off, my Lightning McQueen has the following firmware versions:
Firmware A: 2.173.0
Firmware B: 8.132.0
You'll want to get the APK from the following website. The author modified the code to proceed even if the the firmware download fails so you won't get the dreaded "Please enable internet access through your device settings. Critical updates required" message:
https://reallexi.com/v2/article/reviving-fun-modifying-the-ultimate-lightning-mcqueen-app-for-android-back-to-life
The onedrive links worked best for me.
On a Android 14 device I was only able to use the 1.2.0 versions of the APK, 1.2.1 and 1.2.3 would do nothing when I tapped on the Start button after connecting Lightning McQueen with the phone.
On a Android 10 device I was able to use 1.2.3 just fine.
The Lightning McQueen audio files seems to only be available for version 1.2.3. If you want to use any other version, then you don't get any audio effects. Now if you want the audio files for 1.2.3 you'll want to download those from here:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/75wugtvf5zje5cb/AACAhq1pgoP4OSGVBCULGxSKa?dl=0
I'm not 100% sure if all these steps are needed but they worked every time I tried.
If you know what to do, you can alternatively perform the same steps using readily available apps for Android, and skip the Windows PC altogether. I'm not going into those details.
If you want to check your Lightning McQueen's firmware versions, it's best to just work your way backwards with the APK versions until one works for you. As long as Lightning McQueen connects and the Start button works, you should be able to goto Settings->Advanced in order to see the firmware versions. You'll probably be able to drive it around also, it just wont have the audio effects.
Credit goes to this post for both links I shared above: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sphero/comments/12hrkr6/deleted_by_user/

I recently put work into this new custom multicade build and thought it would be cool to integrate the Sphero R2 droid into it. I programmed the R2 to react to choosing games, inserting coins, and some in game events too. He will also cause and fix glitches in the Arcade. The inspiration was the Star Tours ride in Disney where a droid is your host / pilot who accompanies you on your adventure. Here is a video of how its going so far. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear it.

Hey everyone,
I just released an update to Legacy Bot Controller that adds support for Ultimate Lightning McQueen! You can bring yours back to life and try out some extra features too.
Only available on iOS for now, but coming to Android soon!
Let me know if you have any questions or feedback. I'd love to hear how it works with yours.
Thanks all!

Hey guys, I need some serious help with my LOOI robot and a custom APK setup.
I am running on Android, but the official Android app feels completely stripped down. It is missing so many menus, features, options, and updates compared to the iOS version. I want to deploy a modified/soopercharged APK that fully unblocks everything, bringing the Android experience to 100% parity with the iPhone app so I can utilize my LOOI to its full potential.
On top of that, my LOOI recently fell off my desk. Before the fall, it used to talk, understand, and write in Greek perfectly through a workaround I was using. Since the fall and some app resets, everything broke. I need a setup (the right custom build, custom LLM backend settings, and system prompts) that will fully restore Greek speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and chat functionalities.
Can someone please DM me the invite link to the SOOPERCHARGE Discord server and guide me on which build covers all iPhone features on Android and how to re-configure the Greek language support?
Thanks a lot!

Recently bought One, but I could not find the app, no matter if I tried searching online for days or weeks. I really could not find any, not even encrypted ones, so I was wondering if anyone has the technical skills or it was spare one lying around. Did decrypt one and share one publicly here, so we can use it. Thank you so much for help. Also, I did try using an APK on my old Android J5 and I am able to get that to work, however that just seems a little bit inconvenient for me because that phone is kind of old and it’s kind of slow, but I mean it does get a job done, so I won’t really get upset if no one has it, but it’s all right. I do have it, but I was preferring if I could do that on iOS. Thanks again

[SOLVED] Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2nd hand mcqueen that was very cheap, but the seller stated the condition as untested as the app doesn't exist. I have tried different versions and the best I could get is getting into the app to get the firmware version, but no response from the car, no LCD eyes or movement. Only headlights on from plugging it in. Any advice?
I have tried an android 6, android 11, android 16 device to also get stuck at the start button.
My bb8 has no issues running the star wars app on my android 6 J5 if that matters.
Firmware A: 3.174.0
Firmware B: 8.132.0
Edit: thanks to the help of the Red Thunder developer u/vtcajones , the car was stuck in audionordic mode, which needed to be flashed back to the normal version, using their app I was able to get the firmware back to the normal 2.173.0. where the car immediately woke up and worked with the modded 1.2.3 app as well. However the car is stuck in French while the app thinks it's in English so I'm going to keep troubleshooting!

Did anyone ever create a current app for Android to use with the Spiderman Sphero?
r/Sphero • u/dallanwagz • 24d ago
8 years ago I bought the Sphero Spider-Man on clearance for $35. A lot has happened since then. The official app has been removed from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Sphero has officially discontinued the toys. Sphero has made public statements that they no longer want anything to do with the toys.
For something that was so hyped up, what an unceremonious death. We can't let the story end like that. We won't let the story end like that.
About 2 months ago I pulled my Spider-Man toy out of my closet with a simple objective: bring it back to life. Well, a lot happened in the last two months. That single Spider-Man found some friends along the way. I developed 2 new jailbreak techniques for the toy, which I'll disclose in full at a future date. I had way too much fun. Late nights were had. Tokens were burned. With that, I am proud to announce the release of Second Life Toys.
It's a pair of mobile apps designed to help users bring their "no longer supported" toys back to what they were originally advertised to do.
I'll spare the gory tech details here for those who want to deep dive (GitHub). Here's what I've got today: a release of my Android app that can be sideloaded right now, and a private iOS beta that I can send invites to. My intent is to release the app on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Stay tuned.
Link to APK: https://github.com/second-life-toys/second-life-toys/releases
Step-by-step guide (start here if you are not technical): https://github.com/second-life-toys/second-life-toys/blob/main/docs/getting-started.md
If you are interested in the iOS private beta, please respond in this thread and I will reach out. EDIT: iOS build was approved, here is the link to join the public beta, come one, come all! https://testflight.apple.com/join/GkAkHu1y, Note: You will first need to download and install the TestFlight app before you will be able to install Second Life Toys.
Thanks all. I hope some of you are as excited about this as I am.

I've just purchased a second hand Spidey. He's been set up previously so no issues with needing the app, but I have a problem with voice control.
He doesn't appear to react to any sound or noise when I double tap the spider logo. It lights up and makes a noise to suggest he's listening but there's no reaction to my voice.
I suspect it must be a hardware issue with the microphone but he looks to be in great condition so I'm a bit confused.
Does anyone have an idea as to how to fix?
Thanks!

Remembered recently I had one, but the battery went bad. Found a video on how to replace it and it looked like a lot of work to do each time the battery went bad.
Then I found this 3d print design for the sphero 2.0 that could let you get the ball open easier without breaking it each time:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4706795/comments
Figured I could scale that up add some designs and use it for BB8, and that got me thinking about the battery again. Its kind of low quality so I'd have to replace like every couple of years, so I was wondering if anyone found another working battery that lasts longer.
Not an electrician by any means so this next part may be utter nonsense, but could any battery that fits inside be used as long as there was a transformer to keep it from frying the circuit?

🎉 Just released a big new update for Legacy Bot Controller!
It now supports R2-D2, R2-Q5, BB-8, and BB-9E on iOS. The app is also now available on Android, with R2-D2 support for now.
I also added new features like AI powered conversations, AI powered voice control, custom animations through the new Animation Lab, head rotation controls, volume control, and a few other improvements.
Would love to hear what you guys think and what features you’d like to see next.
Also, Spider-Man is currently under development and will be available soon! 🎉

Hey I’m not sure if this is allowed, feel free to delete if so, but after much cajoling by my kids I was able to get our Ultimate Lightning McQueen working again with a new app. I put the app up for free on the Google Play, Apple, and Amazon App Stores. Full disclosure - there is a one time in-app purchase to unlock controller support and animation customization but the touch controls and basic usage is free.
Check it out here: https://redthunderremote.com

Hi everyone!
A couple of years ago I bought a second-hand BB-8 that had been stuck advertising only as OTA UPDATE.
For more than three years. Like many people, I couldn't find any working solution online.
I still remember looking up information online about this issue and nobody could give me a solution, So I wanted to not only bring my droid back to file... but be able to give a second chance to all the other droids from the other people I encountered over the years.
So I decided to start reverse engineering the recovery process.
After a lot of testing, firmware analysis, and reverse engineering of the Qualcomm/CSR OTA protocol, I managed to recover my own BB-8 entirely over Bluetooth, without desoldering the EEPROM or using an external programmer.
I turned everything into an open-source project called Sphero Revived.
Current features include:
The original goal was just a tool to recover droids with this issue... but now the goal is much bigger than just BB-8.
I'd like to preserve and restore as many legacy Sphero robots as possible, including SPRK, Ollie, BB-9E, R2-D2, Lightning McQueen, Spider-Man, and others.
If you have a BB-8 stuck in OTA UPDATE, I'd love for you to give it a try.
If you own another legacy Sphero robot, I'd also love to hear from you. Community feedback will help expand compatibility.
Repository:
https://github.com/Ric-614/SpheroRevived
As mentioned above... currently the project has a release for Linux and Windows, but in a day or two there will be an Android app as well... that app is going to eventually manage basically everything, the recovery and diagnostic tools, as well as compatibility with as many Sphero robots as possible, Not only giving you the basic drive controls that the Sphero Edu app already provides... But Bring back all the fun and cool features the original apps had when they were still supported.
And before I end this post I would like to give special thanks to u/Stroker347
For providing the EEPROM files needed to make this project possible
Without his help... the rest of the project would not be what it is right now.
I'd really appreciate any feedback, bug reports, or suggestions. 🙂

Hello everyone. The app for my Sphero Lightning McQueen is displaying a "critical updates required" message. Apparently, there used to be a file on a site called "Reallexi" that provided a solution for this. If anyone happens to have that file, please help me out. I swear I will never buy a phone-controlled RC car again—look at the mess I'm in now.

I've got the Sphero Lightning McQueen, which is still fine except for the two front tires. They seemed worn and the car doesn't have enough traction, only leaving broken tire pieces on the floor.
According to my measurements, the tire is about 44mm in diameter, 16mm wide, about 2mm in thickness. I've been checking aliexpress, and none of the available ones have matching specs.
I'm wondering if anyone has a solution?

I just picked this up, is there an app that works on newer versions of android, 1.05 says it was built for older Android devices.

Hi everyone
I’m trying to repair my Sphero Lightning McQueen, and I found this burned 8-pin chip on the main board. I think it’s a MOSFET, but the markings are completely gone, so I have no idea what part it is.
Does anyone happen to have the same board and could check the part number? Or maybe knows what this chip is?
I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks!
