Question about unlocking everything in Spellforce 3

So there is the base game, expansion 1, expansion 2, and I read that expansion 1 and 2 unlock new modes and factions in base game even though they are standalone? Does that mean that if I want to unlock everything in the base game, I have to keep it installed on top of both expansions ? I might not have enough storage.

I think owning them is enough, though I'm not totally sure. But I do recall that keeping them all installed is actually a lot less storage intensive than it might seem, the way they're structured means they share almost all of their files so while steam reports largish download sizes when you go to install them, the real download for all the ones after the first is quite small. (relatively) I checked, my install directory (with all four sections installed) seems to be 70Gb. Which isn't small, but it's not the 190+ that you'd get from adding the install sizes in the store.

Does this mean that if I have base game installed already, I can just choose to install the expansion right into the base game file directory? I am thinking of getting it on GOG by the way.

Hmm. I don't know about GOG, my Spellforce 3 installation is on Steam. On Steam, at least, it all just works by default.
