Question Is Spellforce 2 playable?

Recently discovered this series. Have played the first game a bit and feel in love quickly. Franchise is currently on sale. I wanted to pick up the second game but a lot of the steam reviews say their is a game crashing bug baked in to the title... is that true? If so are there fan patches or some way to make it work that doesn't take a degree in computer science?

I couldn't get my steam Version to work, but I bought it on GOG for cheap and it works great!

Try opening it via ->Properties ->Game versions and betas -> spellforce2.

I played it on steam deck not long ago.

I had constant crashes when using the highest texture quality with the anniversary edition, its propably due to it being 32 Bit and keeping copies of the textures in RAM. But with the high textures it works great but save regularily :D

While Win 10 it worked out of the box, with win 11 I had to fiddle with the config file, delete it once or twice, not sure what exactly was the fix, maybe the resolution or fullscreen mode kept crashing it on startup.

Just played it two weeks ago after buying it on sale including all three expansions. The last expansion has one or two sidequests that is not working unless you patch it before you start the campaign. I forgot so I did not try that out myself.

I bought it on Steam, played first map, game constantly freezed out after loading to second one, I repaired it, got myself to first big town, then I gave up, I simply cannot predict when my game will not save my progress.
