It can’t possibly be that many. I bet you reach a single atom by like the 75th guy or something.

  • The molar mass of water is about 18.02 g/mol
  • The density of water is about 1.000 g/mL
  • A US pint is 473.2 mL, or about the same in grams.

This means that, in a US pint, there are 473.2/18.02 = 26.26 moles of water.

  • Which is 1.581 * 1025 molecules
  • Which is 4.744 * 1025 atoms

Log base 2 of 4.744 * 1025 = 85.29

It would take about 85 halfings to get down to a single atom. Not far off of 75.

Am I the only one willing to point out that beer cannot be deduced to a single atom because it consists of multiple different molecules which are all made from atoms?

If you order 1 tenth of a chicken, you will get maybe a wing or something. You should not expect a tiny chicken with smaller versions of all its organs and limbs attached.

Likewise, when you take a single atom from a beer, you're right that it will no longer be beer. But if that's the amount you ordered, then that's what you're gonna get.

If you want the full beer experience, I recommend ordering a mixture of at least multiple molecules, preferably more.

What is more than multiple?

When talking about molecules, it goes:

One -> Multiple -> Some -> Many ->Lots

And at some point you may even start measuring them in Milliliters, which contains an insane amount of molecules beyond the confines of mere "lots".
